Obama Keeps Low Profile on High Profile Issues (sees no upside in outspokenness)

Call it an above-the-fray strategy.

On hot issues that Democrats and Republicans have found cause to fret about — from spending reductions to state labor disputes — President Barack Obama is keeping a low profile.

Democrats like Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia want him more publicly engaged in budget negotiations in Congress while others want him to denounce Republican proposed program cuts. Democrats like Rep. Keith Ellison want him to go to Wisconsin to stand in solidarity with public unions fighting to retain their bargaining rights.

Some lawmakers in both parties want him to take a greater lead against Libya's idiosyncratic strongman, Moammar Gadhafi.

But the White House sees no upside in outspokenness.

[snip]

"What I've done is, every day I talk to my team," the president said, responding directly to criticism that he has been absent from the debate. "I give them instructions in terms of how they can participate in the negotiations, indicate what's acceptable, indicate what's not acceptable."

[snip]

As for military action, he said: "Anytime I send United States forces into a potentially hostile situation, there are risks involved and there are consequences. And it is my job as president to make sure that we have considered all those risks.

"It's also important from a political perspective to, as much as possible, maintain the strong international coalition that we have right now."

"It's also important from a political perspective to....."

It's all about Obama and the perpetuation of his agenda.

A bad day at the golf course is better than a good day in the situation room. He’s got about 18 months worth of Presidential mulligans. Don’t waste’m.

You can bet that Obama WILL be high profile for this Japan thing just as he was Tucson. He picks and chooses. He picks those to be high profile where he and his agenda can benefit politically. Low profile on issues that are results of his leadership failures such as Libya.

His handlers apparently thought it better that he keep his mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to go on yacking and remove all doubt. Who is Obama anyhow? He’s a teleprompter-reader, not an event driver.

Obama Seeks a Course of Pragmatism in the Middle East "Mr. Obama has told people that it would be so much easier to be the president of China. As one official put it, “No one is scrutinizing Hu Jintao’s words in Tahrir Square.”

Obama’s relatives in Kenya are on Q-Daffy’s payroll. Of course he is going to be camera shy. Follow the money...

Obama has been camera shy about Libya. ...

It's been tough for the president.

"A senior administration official acknowledged the irony of Mr. Obama’s dilemma; he is, after all, the first black president, whose election was hailed on the Arab street, where many protesters identify their own struggles with the civil rights movement...." [end excerpt]

So, "to be perfectly clear" Obama surfaced in a planned Friday news conference, to announce that Gaddafi is "on the wrong side of history" and that Hillary will be talking to the opposition in Libya sometime in the very near future.

I think Obama himself is on Q-Daffy's payroll. In a video Q-Daffy made a speech praising candidate Obama and urging that all Muslims in Africa and the Middle East support his campaign.

It's on YouTube

He's a real study in passive-aggressive.

To him this is how presidents should be: above the fray, superior, entitled and unconcerned (elite).

Lavish parties, golfing, vacations are "elections have consequences" spoils of the Oval office and we can damn well shut up and watch him enjoy his winnings.

Not unlike people such as Ferdinand Marcos or Saddam Hussein.

To him (the community organizer bully) these are opportunities to exploit.
