Priebus plots RNC’s long climb out of financial hole
The Washington Times ^ | March 10, 2011 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Reince Priebus, just over a month into his term as Republican National Committee chairman, is cutting costs and cultivating the party’s donor base in an aggressive bid to fix the national party’s tattered balance sheet.

The former Wisconsin Republican Party chairman has less than 20 months to whip the GOP’s most important money-raising instrument into shape to ensure his party’s candidates can compete with President Obama and congressional Democrats in the 2012 elections.

The troubled tenure of predecessor Michael S. Steele left the RNC deeply in debt and with what was once a battalion of big donors reduced to platoon strength. Mr. Priebus faces a challenge of the magnitude not encountered by an RNC chairman since George H.W. Bush took over the national party headquarters at the height of the Watergate crisis...

Unlike Mr. Steele, who managed to pick public fights with top conservatives and took months to recruit a finance chairman, Mr. Priebus, 38, has avoided the spotlight and has recruited GOP fundraiser Ron Weiser of Michigan, a former ambassador to Slovakia, to be co-chairman of an internal financial oversight panel...

Mr. Priebus and Mr. Sembler acknowledge that the RNC faces a long, steep comeback. The team has pared staff and frozen contract expenditures in an attempt to restore confidence within the party.

After defeating Mr. Steele and three other rivals in the mid-January vote for chairman, Mr. Priebus immediately put to work his party’s top fundraisers, who have raised enough to knock off $1 million from the RNC’s more than $23 million debt to banks and suppliers...

Under Mr. Steele, the RNC spent 70 cents to raise each dollar in donations, while American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS spent 4 cents to raise each dollar in donations.

I don’t know how to feel about this.
The RNC basically told us to go take a hike & leave our money at the door before we left while they were busy promoting the RINO herd.

If it is just more of the same then why should we care?
We can fund our own candidates and I didn’t see the prince can out in strong support of Governor Walker.

He will have all the success He can handle if the RNC listens to the TEA folks.

I quit giving because of rinos.

I am conservative

I contribute to Conservative candidates

Are you listening Mr Priebus ? There are lots of folks like me.

Dump the RINO’s or get them on the side of Conservatives and he can be successful.
If he continues to back the RINO leadership we are dead ducks.

I will not donate one penny to help Romney ,Hucakbee , or Newt. I will send my campaign donations to the one I pick, not the one picked for me by Hatch and McCain ,or the New Hampshire Yankee’s at their joke of a primary.

They just need to quit calling me. I’m no longer giving to the party, only individual candidates.

>> I don’t know how to feel about this.

Not that you asked, but here is how *I* feel about this.

I am sympathetic to Mr. Priebus, and mildly encouraged by his words so far. I wish him all the best.

However, we have been sold a bill of goods for SO LONG by the establishment RINOS in the RNC, that words and intentions alone are inadequate and untrustworthy.

Mr. Priebus will have to scrape together whatever limited resources he has and show good conservative RESULTS before I’ll release a nickel of money or a minute of my time on their behalf.

Until then I’ll continue to work with worthy individual candidates only, just as I did after Steele showed himself and the RNC unworthy.

Lots more likenesses between nobama and Steele than meets the eye. Could be that Cultural Governing Style? Jive and skim, Jive and skim.

Priebus could turn this thing around before it slips below the waves. Staying out of the limelight is a good start.
Turning off the $ to RINOS will be a gold mine.

I like the low profile he’s taken—and imagine he’s been very busy. Sounds like he’s been reaching out to build a good team.

It’s not just Steele’s mess, it’s the fact they don’t listen to the base...we are saying CONSERVATIVES and they give us RINOS. No offense to Sen Dole but he was dull as ditch water. McNasty was too, along with being a RINO.

We want more Bachmann’s, Palin’s, Pence’s, DeMints and a few Hammers! And we want them in leadership roles.

Not one more dime from me to the national party until that happens. The elite in DC wouldn’t even help my candidate, I gave to my local candidate last cycle. I didn’t care if she didn’t have a chance they should have helped her.

Bachmann, Palin, Pence, DeMint strong true CONSERVATIVES if you want to save your party’s backside. I write it on all their begging letters and mail it back.

I too like the low profile that he has taken, unlike his predecessor. He’s working hard to fix the nuts and bolts. I’m not sure if I agree with the need to emphasize fundraising. Yes, the RNC needs $$..it’s the mothers milk of politics..and we do need an institutional structure..but political fundraising has changed dramatically. I stopped giving to the RNC, RCCC, and RSC after 2004. Now, I choose my candidates, in the races that I find of interest, and donate directly to them. Or, I’ll choose a PAC...such as DeMint’s..or Club for Growth...and give them some $$$. I don’t want to pay for the BIG DC infrastructure, expense accounts, and consultants..

I wonder if he also thinks that people are naturally afraid of him when he enters a room?

When will he go on his book signing tour and be seen on tv wearing one of his new shinny suits?

I think that the RNC has been damaged beyond repair and is ignoring the new reality of their political relevance as evidenced by comments on this forum.

They won’t listen, they haven’t for 20+ yrs. All we will get is the usual lip service and stale promises to conservative issues and once the election is over, the same old liberal BS as before.

If they want my support they should try actions, not words at this point. $61 billion dollars cut from a $4 trillion dollar budget and you expect us to stand up and cheer for that so-called “bold” action? WTF?

DITTO! Just busting the waste, duplication, and fraud would save 3 times that amount and then some.
