Washington Post - The Associated Press

HONOLULU — The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii has widened its tsunami warning to include Hawaii and the rest of the Pacific Ocean.

The warning was issued Thursday at 9:31 p.m. HST. Sirens were sounded shortly afterward in Honolulu alerting people in coastal areas to evacuate.

The warning follows a massive earthquake that has struck off the northeastern coast of Japan. The first waves were expected to arrive at 2:55 a.m. HST Friday.

The warning also includes Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Central and South America. The coast of North America is not included in the warning.

Tsunami warnings are issued due to the imminent threat of a tsunami.

No, we’re about halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga, not far above the TN/AL state line. There are fault lines that run through the mountains and it was apparently one of those that let go. They’ve slip occassionally since then but we haven’t felt them here.

Quakes are the main reason I never fancied living in CA. I’ll take my chances with tornados. LOL! We were missed by one last week but just 4 miles. Hubby watched it roar by and nightowl me slept through it.

Watching the coverage of Japan is like watching one of those doomsday movies. They’re always over the top.

But this isn’t Hollywood.

Glad to hear you are connecting with family. Tell your son to forget about the dumb computers, they can be replaced.

Wish I could warp you all up here to stay on my couch in Minnesota, its cold in fly-over country but the ocean is days away.

Stay safe (you seem to know what to do) and know that you are all in in our prayers.
