The US national intelligence director has predicted embattled Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi will defeat the rebels challenging his grip on power.

James Clapper told the US Senate that Col Gaddafi's superior military force would prevail over the long term.

And Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the US would not act in Libya without international authorisation.

Meanwhile, Libyan rebels are fleeing the port of Ras Lanuf after sustained attacks by Col Gaddafi's forces.

In Washington, Gen Clapper, who is the top intelligence adviser to US President Barack Obama, told the Senate he saw no evidence Col Gaddafi would step down from power and warned his military was stronger than had previously been described.

'Hunkering down'

"Gaddafi is in this for the long haul," Gen Clapper said...

I think it was the only correct thing Clapper said.

Uh Oh!!!

Predictions by Obummer staff are generally WRONG!

If I were Qaddafi, at this point, I'd get out - merely on Klapper’s predictions.

I tend to agree with him here. This isn’t Gaddafi’s (They spelled it “Khaddafi” back in Reagan’s day) first rodeo, and I doubt it will be his last.

Here’s hoping that plenty from both sides soon become “good Moslems,” if you catch my drift ...

I’m amazed that Clapper even knows that there’s trouble in Libya. He doesn’t have a very good track record on intelligence.

The Clapper Clap on! Clap Off! joke goes back to when he was the active duty general in charge of SAC Intel. He’ll never escape it.

Even a blind squirrel finds the occasional nut. It’s about time Clapper got something right, but don’t make the mistake of thinking this is a trend...

However, a sixth Grader could have made this prediction based on nothing more than the fact that to date, The Regime is content to stand by and casually watch Libya burn. If we don’t remove Kadaffy, nobody else will.

I have had odds on Momar since day one.. doesn’t mean I like the guy, but the idea that this uprising won’t be crushed, at least without international intervention, is not remotely likely.

Gaddafi will prevail

That's what Obama really wants. Obama and Gaddafi (and Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan) share a common vision and a common enemy.... us.

James Clapper and Hillary Clinton are making sure Gaddafi gets the message that the Obama administration can’t directly support him but won’t lift a finger to help the rebels, so Muammar can rest easy and keep on killing his countrymen with no fear of even the mildest reprisal from the U.S. Gaddafi may be nuts but he gets it: his dictatorship is safe.

The left in America loves Khadaffi and wanted Mubarak to go. Rush had something where wolf blitzer has orgasms over Khadaffi. He is the left’s muslim rockstar.

By siding with the rebels, Obama has bet all chances of a favorable relationship with Libya (or Libiya, in his words) on the outcome of the civil war. It is now in America’s interest to see the rebellion succeeds, and we should be ensuring that it will.

Ronald Reagan had it right. When Iran and Iraq went to war, he shoveled bullets and guns to both sides. Win, Win, Win.

The smart foreign policy move for us is to encourage civil war throughout the arab world. Keep them well supplied with bullets and small arms, blindfolds and cigarettes. Keep both sides in balance step back and just enjoy the mayhem.

I think we have to, and I say that knowing my son will be one of the first Marines to land on the shores of Tripoli.
