WASHINGTON (Reuters) The government posted a record monthly budget deficit of $222.5 billion in February as spending growth outstripped revenue gains that were crimped by tax cuts enacted late last year, the Treasury Department reported on Thursday.
The budget gap for February -- typically a large deficit month -- beat the previous record of $220.91 billion set in February 2010. But it came in under the consensus forecast of a $227.5 billion gap from analysts polled by Reuters.

When gubamint is the largest employer and consumer on the block, somebody has to pay for it. (like yur kids and grandkids)
which came first , the budget or the deficit?
How can ya have a budget deficit when you don’t have a budget?
We are in FRee-wheelin’ mode, blowin’ more dough than a Pillsbury bakery
There are only 28 days in February, This month has 31 and will exceed last months deficit
Isn’t this larger than the entire annual deficit for 2007?
That is $2,000 per household, and only half the households in the country pay any taxes. This is a shockingly irresponsible rate of government fraud, waste, and abuse. We need to starve the beast and take an ax to the budget, not just a scalpel or in many cases barely a butter knife.
Government spending is almost never “investment”. It’s consumption and in most cases non-productive consumption. We need to look at every agency and every dollar with a critical eye to our children’s future.
I hope everybody remembers that this is higher than half of the YEARLY deficits under President Bush. His YEARLY deficits had dropped to 175 billion in 2007 before that stupid TARP bill in 2008.
This number (amount of deficit) is far more important than the easily faked unemployment number. Of course, when that's realized this number will be faked also.
Isnt this larger than the entire annual deficit for 2007
