NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller has resigned, NPR just announced.
This follows yesterday's news that then-NPR fundraiser Ron Schiller (no relation) was videotapped slamming conservatives and questioning whether NPR needs federal funding during a lunch with men posing as members of a Muslim organization (they were working with political activist James O'Keefe on a "sting.") Vivian Schiller quickly condemned Ron Schiller's comments, and he moved up an already-announced decision to leave NPR and resigned effectively immediately. But Ron Schiller's gaffe followed last fall's dismissal of NPR political analyst Juan Williams, for which Vivian Schiller came under harsh criticism.
NPR just sent this statement from NPR Board of Directors Chairman Dave Edwards to its staff and member stations:
"It is with deep regret that I tell you that the NPR Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of Vivian Schiller as President and CEO of NPR, effective immediately.
"The Board accepted her resignation with understanding, genuine regret, and great respect for her leadership of NPR these past two years.
"Vivian brought vision and energy to this organization. She led NPR back from the enormous economic challenges of the previous two years. She was passionately committed to NPR's mission, and to stations and NPR working collaboratively as a local-national news network.
"According to a CEO succession plan adopted by the Board in 2009, Joyce Slocum, SVP of Legal Affairs and General Counsel, has been appointed to the position of Interim CEO. The Board will immediately establish an Executive Transition Committee that will develop a timeframe and process for the recruitment and selection of new leadership.
"I recognize the magnitude of this news and that it comes on top of what has been a traumatic period for NPR and the larger public radio community. The Board is committed to supporting NPR through this interim period and has confidence in NPR's leadership team."
We'll have much more on this as the story develops.
Update at 9:30 a.m. ET: "I'm told by sources that she was forced out," NPR's David Folkenflik just said on Morning Edition.
You suck.
I was like 20 seconds behind you. You are worse than Vivian Schiller.
Sorry! Less than a minute. ;-)
I hope he learns something. I doubt it.
Don't let the screen door hit you in the patootie...
-- on the WAY OUT!!!
Have a nice day, hon...
Cut NPR free and see how it does.
How long before the terrorist supporting bitch is hired by the FCC or some other obama agency?
FUBO & FAD
No forty seconds!
Wow two Schiller’s gone in less than a day.
That’s okay. I forgive you.
Let’s cuddle.

Maybe she can spend some time with her psycologist.
This is the female Schiller, the CEO.
Vivian?
Now it’s all starting to make sense.
From the NPR website—
“””Update at 9:43 a.m. ET. More from NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik, via Twitter:
“The board for NPR NEWS has just ousted CEO Vivian Schiller in the wake of video sting by conservative activist of a top exec.”
Update at 9:30 a.m. ET: “I’m told by sources that she was forced out,” NPR’s David Folkenflik just said on Morning Edition.”””
I believe that is an understatement to say she was’forced out’!!!!!!
They are just getting ahead of the scandal to save their funding. Sad thing is that it will probably work.
As long as you don’t hit me, you’re forgiven.
I’m sure Berkeley is waiting with open arms.
Vivian must have engaged in some sort of coverup of the other Schiller scandal.
Otherwise why would she be immediately fired????
Oh, then never mind...
I was thinking the “male” schiller’s name was “Vivian”...
Winning!
DEFUND NPR!! As a conservative it infuriates me that my tax $$$ supports left-wing propaganda outlets.
Isn’t this the pompous witch who laughed and told reporters that Juan Williams needed a therapist because he felt uncomfortable on a plane with a bunch of Muslims?
Very happy news.
I bet Juan Williams is grinning from ear to ear this good morning.
I happened to catch him on Hannity last night. He REALLY needs to sue them......but he won’t.
wow, that OKeefe sure responsible for a lot of liberal firings!
Sometimes the news is good.
What is traumatic about the period of NPR slandering Juan Williams and more than half of the American population? Oh right, the traumatic period is that NPR is being targeted by the mean Republicans to cut their funding.
By allowing her people to suck up to every anti-American miscreants possible.
Do you think that maybe O’Keefe has another video that involves Ms Schiller? One can imagine the pogram inside NPR/PBS for any others who have had meetings with potential contributors.
Or perhaps the Apsen job for her namesake came after word of the video emerged and she was caught prevaricating.
It is so easy to provoke liberals into make real a$$es of themselves.
Golden parachute?
Multiple scandals on her watch in the last few months, while congress is looking to cut their funding.
Time to defund the shills for the demorats. Cut off their 90 million in taxpayer funds and watch them die.
The need for NPR ended with cable—its an un-needed relic of another age. Let it go and see if it can float in the world of private enterprise—I bet it will become more even handed.

Bye Bye
Oops....this is confusing..why her?
Yes, but it would also infuriate me if they were using tax $$$ to support right-wing propaganda outlets.
Me thinks maybe James has another one up his sleeve, and she now realizes she’s on the next video....
all I can say is, thank God James O’Keefe is on our side
See ya later, you HACK!
What did she do?? The Juan Williams thing was way back. Is this just to salvage the lobbying effort for funding?? Is there some other scandal that we haven’t heard yet? What is the basis for her resigning?
Ms. Schiller joined NPR in January 2009 after serving as a senior vice president at The New York Times Company, where she was general manager of nytimes.com.
"I had been an NPR fanatic for many, many years," she says .... "I love getting the news in an unbiased way ..."

Q: If money weren't an issue, what would your dream job be?A: I joke with friends that I would run an organic goat farm or open a fish taco stand on the beach in St. Barts.
Now the MB really is going to be interested in funding NPR. From an MB, or SA, point of view, what’s not to like?
Gee thanks, my screen just cracked.
Bu-bye.
