Former Manassas teacher to get 25-year term in child-porn case

MANASSAS - A former Manassas teacher pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Thursday to seven federal charges of producing and possessing child pornography.
Kevin Garfield Ricks, 50, will be sentenced to 25 years in prison, according to the terms of a plea agreement.
In court documents, Ricks admitted to sexually assaulting at least seven teenage boys over a 30-year-period. Prosecutors said Ricks was a "master manipulator" whose pattern was to befriend the boys, then ply them with alcohol and molest them after they passed out. The federal charges stem from pictures and videos Ricks took of several of the boys while they were unconscious, court documents state.
"Kevin Ricks admitted this morning … that he is a dangerous, serial predator that has sexually abused scores of young boys, for more than 30 years, literally across the globe," U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride said after the plea hearing in federal court in Alexandria.
MacBride said what made Ricks' crimes more disturbing was that he was in a position of trust, working as a teacher, tutor and foreign exchange host, when he abused the boys.
"This case is a chilling reminder to parents and kids that the face of evil is often the familiar and the everyday," MacBride said.
Ricks was arrested in February 2010, after allegations surfaced that he had sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy who had been his student at Osbourn High School.
Ricks was convicted of taking indecent liberties with a minor for that incident and sentenced to five years in prison, with four years suspended. He may face other charges in other states, prosecutors said.

And of course, “if only teachers were allowed to marry”.
It’s really too bad that child porn producers and child molesters in general are not executed. In a country with justice, they would be.
This guy got 25 years. Let’s hope he’s not let out early for ‘good behavior.’
