A woman is reportedly suing a California dollar store after slipping on a banana peel.
According to Reuters, Ida Valentine is seeking an unspecified amount in damages after slipping on a banana peel at the 99 Cents Only store in Fontana, east of Los Angeles, last April.
The 58-year-old woman claims she spent $9,000 on medical bills after suffering a herniated disk and tissue damage, the news agency reports.
Her attorney, Courtney Mikolaj, said the store refused a proposed settlement of $44,000.

She slipped in front of the 99 cent store? Then give her 99 cents.
Maybe there’s some liability here, maybe. I don’t know the law. But, I’ve heard there have been lots of staged incidents like this, in which it’s basically a shake down.
Vegas casinos have been hit hard by this sort of thing, where security cameras have shown people spilling something on the floor, then coming back to slip and fall in it.
And remember the woman who claimed to find a thumb in chili at Wendy’s? It turned out she planted the thumb there herself, and had done some other scams in her past.
I wonder how many suits this makes for her??!!
Was she a student at UC Berkley?
This suit does have appeal...
Some women have no idea how to attract a man.
If she wins, the suit should be overturned on a peel.
She should be happy it didn't attack her once she was down.
Yep, and they can be rooted out by research and data keeping.
One way to lower this abuse is to require permission to access records be given when the lawsuit is filed.
Auto insurers have broken many auto accident scams by coordinating databases on claimants, VIN #, license #, treating doctors and clinics.
It’s Peanut Butter Jelly time...Peanut Butter Jelly time...
PAGING JOHN EDWARDS!, PAGING JOHN EDWARDS!....
oh, wait....he is busy...with other matters....
I shop at the 99 (actually it’s 99.99) cents store occasionally. Because America is now a litigious society, some ambulance-chaser will take the case but once the jury hears the details, it will be laughed out of the court room.
Now if she tripped over the store grocery cart, she has a better chance but a banana peel which may or may not have come from the store is implausible.
Mythbusters showed rather clearly that the idea of slipping on a banana peel is fairly impossible.
Yaeh, I was going to ask if Adam and Jamie could confirm the slippage
