LAS VEGAS, NV - Most NASCAR drivers don't come to mind when you think of Las Vegas crimefighters, but then again, most NASCAR drivers aren't 69-year-old Morgan Shepherd.

The veteran of 44 NASCAR seasons was getting out of his rental car in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store Monday evening just minutes away from Las Vegas Motor Speedway just as three men burst from the store's entrance with security forces trailing behind.

That's when Shepherd, a daily jogger and fitness perfectionist, sprang into action.

This line is fantastic: "I told him he shouldn't be stealing stuff."

LOL! When I saw the title I thought he’d chased him down in a car. That teener has to be embarrassed losing a foot chase to a 69 year old.

Good for Morgan Shepherd!

Can you imagine the crap this maroon is going to take in prison for being chased down by a 69 year old guy?

What a maroon.

At least he had the honor of being chased down by a guy named after a Confederate cavalry officer.

“I told him he shouldn't be stealing stuff.”

That line is not to surprising coming from Shepard. I have read that he is very religious.

From what I heard he chased the perp across the lot and tackled him and was holding him down when the police showed up. They told him “do you mind holding him here while we chase the other perps?”

To which Morgan replied “He’s not going anywhere.”

I owe that old bugger a rack of baby backs for being the tough old bird he clearly is.

Of course, if the thief had known he was a NASCAR driver he probably would’ve just gone around the wall, taking a couple of right turns in the process to lose him.

Pretty cool story. Nice to see one where a good samaritan doesn’t end up getting chewed out for intervening and doing the right thing like you seem to see so much these days! In some other places he’d probably be charged with assault for tackling the thief (eye-roll).

I’m just amazed that the Walmart folks were allowed to pursue the perps....at the Pennsylvania stores their policy is to stop once they leave the premises.

“I didn’t tell him a 69-year-old man chased him down,” Shepherd joked. “He was probably 18 or 19.
