For reference. Reports are sketchy at best but Gaddafi appeared yesterday in Green Square. His palace is north west of the corner of First Ring Road and Airport Highway. The reports of fighting have been mainly in the eastern suburbs.

Here is the AOL News for the day. It seems that Kadaffi is handing out weapons to his supporters, and bribing the people with money and other benefits. Sounds like this will get even more ugly. Tripoli is a big place. I spent an hour last night roaming all over Libya and Tripoli using Google Map Earth. It was fascinating. I wish I knew how old the map photos are. Think I will go try to find the palace.

I went back to Google Map Earth, and focused in on this spot in Tripoli. It is west of the Airport Rd., but I could not find the First Ring Rd label on this map although it has the 2nd and 3rd Ring Rds. At any rate it seems bigger and more complex than anything in that area. I just tried to copy and move here twice, but it doesn’t work. At any rate when I went back I spotted the airport to the right of the Old City. There were a number of different kinds of aircraft—commercial, military, helicopters, etc. Some looked as if they may have been damaged or burned. Any military buffs out there that can evaluate this. I think the photos are very recent. Also, the port is immediately to the right of the Old City, I can see some docks with ships in them, Navy folk, any thoughts?? One can zoom down to 1 1/2 inches = 50 feet. At any rate, here is the Google map site, instructions under the map:
