ICE director at agent's funeral: 'No retreat, no compromise'

Holder, Napolitano vow justice to Zapata's killers

The director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday told the parents, friends and associates of slain ICE Agent Jaime Zapata that the U.S. and Mexican governments would "bring the long arm of the law down" on the drug smugglers who killed him and wounded his partner, Victor Avila.

"Together, we will look after our people. Together, we will continue to see that Jaime and Victor's work is done and that the rule of law triumphs over lawlessness and empty violence. There is no other way. Acquiescing to the rule of criminals consigns our children, Mexico's children to a hopeless and empty path," ICE Director John Morton said during a funeral Mass for the slain agent in Brownsville, Texas, attended by hundreds of mourners.

"My friends: no retreat, no compromise. Our cause is just, our cause is right, there is no other way," Mr. Morton said.

.................

Neither of the agents was armed, as the Mexican government does not authorize U.S. law enforcement personnel to carry weapons in that country.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. also spoke at the funeral Mass, both saying the U.S. was determined to see that those responsible for Agent Zapata's death would be identified, captured and brought to justice.

The Mass was held at the Brownsville Events Center, and Agent Zapata's flag-draped coffin was placed in front of the altar. More than 1,000 people attended, including wheelchair-bound Agent Avila, who placed a flower on his partner's casket during graveside burial ceremonies.

This transcends the normal DC bs to reach new heights of hypocritical posturing by overfed hams who have no intention of doing anything other than engaging in more legalistic mumbo jumbo and calling it action.

Was this one of the victims of a shooting with one of the “gunwalker” guns?

Yeah, sure. Mexico will help us defend our border. Why don’t we just close down the Border Patrol and outsource it to Mexico, like we outsource computer maintenance to India?

At some point in time, perhaps not in our lifetimes, Mexico will “join” the United States of America. How many states will Mexico be broken up to? Unknown at this time. However, Canada will likely be brought into the United States as existing provinces. With the exception of Quebec, which will likely remain its own country. Who needs a French speaking U.S. state anyhow?

Probably not, but there are rumors they were sold out by a Mexican official who called cartel members. The way this hit was done, it is a challenge to the U.S. This was a sanctioned attack on a vehicle with diplomatic plates. They are basically telling American law enforcement working in Mexico not to leave the cities.

We have to make a clear and hard response......but we probably won't. When the DEA agent was killed a long time ago Customs shut down the land ports for a period of time. That would be a good start, plus unleash some BORTACers into the field without any restrictions.

Why would anybody allow this stupid twit to say a word at their family member’s funeral? Or did she just contact them and tell them she’s coming so she could make her grand meaningless speech?

UGH! UGH! UGH!

You missed one:

It has just come to light that on June 11, 2010, the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council and their local chapter representatives, which represent 7,000 ICE agents working across the country, took a vote of no-confidence on ICE Director John Morton, resulting in a 259-0 total against the director.

The union also drafted a letter citing examples of how Morton has failed the country, by misrepresenting the extent of the dangers posed by criminal aliens; turning detainment centers into resorts, where illegal aliens are allowed to roam free, and no longer subject to searches; and basically creating a de facto amnesty, in lieu of enforcement. The letter is entitled “VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN ICE DIRECTOR JOHN MORTON AND ODPP ASSISTANT DIRECTOR PHYLLIS COVEN .”

Portions of the letter written by ICE Union President Chris Cane which allege outright lies by Morton and Coven follow:
