NAIROBI (KTLA) -- U.S. military officials say they're prepared to rescue four Americans who are reportedly aboard a yacht that was hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean.
On Friday, a distress signal was sent by the boat from the middle of the Indian Ocean, according to the French news agency AFP.
The hijacking was first reported by Ecoterra International, which monitors regional maritime activity.
Ecoterra said the S/V Quest was seized 240 nautical miles (275 miles) off the coast of Oman.
Two of the four U.S. citizens being held captive aboard the S/V Quest have been identified as Scott and Jean Adam, the owners of the boat.
The other two people have not been identified.
This piracy will continue until somebody decides to destroy the pirates in a shocking fashion.
Shouldn't we try a presidential bow first to keep the peace?
We should have SEAL teams posing as wealthy vacationers, tooling about in sailing yachts. Sort of seaborne “bait cars”, if you will. The pirates should simply disappear; no news or public reports.
Like sailing into port with the pirates decorating the ships yard arm.
The real question is why would 4 Americans put themself’s in the middle of Pirate Lane? What idiots would do that?
Is this Carter diplomacy or something?
You speak loudly if you are prepared to do nothing; and you are mum if you plan to take this jerks down.
Either the plan is to do nothing, or, worse, do take them down while allowing the perps to be prepared as well.
Christian missionaries.
Well, let’s just tell the world and give the pirates a big ol’ heads up.
Sneaky as an elephant on a hockey rink.
Will this be a super-secret rescue attempt, designed to catch the pirates completely by surprise and without warning? Good plan.
I would never travel there without the Russian Navy. ( US needs Obama’s permission).
Too bad their civilian bosses in DC aren't. Look how much good a Diplo Passport does in Pakistan...
the First Agitator will probably demand a rescue using several helicopters
Beautiful boat.

I want that boat and way of life..... sooooooo darn bad.
These folks have been living my dream..... I wish them well and will say a few prayers for them.
Destroy the pirates immediately. They’re easy to spot.
Well, if the worse happens, they will be ready.
And quite possibly endanger the lives of our brave fighting men and women during a rescue attempt?
I say throw a harpoon missile at any vessel in the area that might be harboring pirates, and be done with it.
Gator I ain't so sure about that pilot house in really heavy offshore weather. Hope The Mombasa Moonbeam gets them back safely. He really ought to give OUR (not his) best shot. Give his numbers a real boost! (Unfortunately)
275 miles off shore and still vulnerable means we need a bunch of dead pirates on display and their home bases torn up.
I wonder why pirates would hijack a private yacht 275 miles off shore.
No way possible they could expect to make it back to Somali without intervention
