16-year-old pop superstar Justin Bieber: abortion is ‘like killing a baby’

Edit 2.17.11 1:18pm EST: This article was updated to include Bieber’s quotation as corrected by Rolling Stone. The magazine says it was due to an “editing error” that the statement, “I don’t know how that would be a reason,” was left out of the star’s quoted answer on abortion after rape.

February 16, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a soon-to-be-published interview with Rolling Stone, teen idol Justin Bieber revealed that he shares something in common with a growing number of young people in the United States - he is pro-life.

“I really don’t believe in abortion,” Bieber told contributing editor Vanessa Grigoriadis. “It’s like killing a baby?”

When pressed as to whether he opposes abortion in the case of rape, the young singer replied, “Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason.  I don’t know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that.”

Canadian-born Bieber’s conviction evidently has nothing to do with party politics, as he revealed when asked who he would support when he’s old enough to vote. “I’m not sure about the parties. But whatever they have in Korea, that’s bad,” he said.

Erik Whittington of the pro-life organization Rock for Life said Bieber’s remarks are “Great news” since he “has huge influence on young people.”

At the same time he questioned Bieber’s hedging on the question of rape. “Justin, I thought you said, ‘It’s like killing a baby?’ If it is, which it is that what is the problem?  Why the hesitation?  How come it’s OK to judge other situations but not this one?”

Bieber also suggested that his young fans should wait to have sex. “I don’t think you should have sex with anyone unless you love them. … I think you should just wait for the person you’re … in love with,” he said.

In a recent interview with Catholic Online, Justin Bieber’s mother, Pattie Mallette, said that she “brought Justin up in the faith” and that her son attended a Catholic school. Mallette, a former Catholic, identifies as a non-denominational Christian.

Mallette asked her son’s Christian fans to pray for the young singer, who shot to stardom at the ripe age of 15 after his single “One Time” reached number 12 on the Canadian Hot 100, and called the entertainment industry a “dark” business. “My prayer is for Justin to be protected against the temptations of the industry,” she said.

The youthfulness of the American pro-life movement - the March for Life in Washington this year, as usual, owed much of its size to an army of young people - has been noticed even by leaders of the abortion lobby. “I just thought, my gosh, they are so young. There are so many of them, and they are so young,” said NARAL Pro-Choice America president Nancy Keenan last year, after observing the March.

Ummmm ... maybe it's because this Bieber fellow is an immature, spoiled 17 year old pop-star, and hasn't thought the matter over thoroughly? Beating on him verbally isn't going to help guide him in the right direction.

Was this interview public before the Grammy’s? Because that might explain his being passed over.

Considering his audience, it’s very good he’s said this publicly, regardless of what anyone who’s not an early- or pre-teen girl thinks.

Shut up! He said it's like killing a baby...Period. Now some liberal hack uses their age old “But what about rape?” question and he defers to individual judgment. So then the “ultra right wing” says “Hey all your answers are not perfect”! I tell you the Right hasn't a f@ck!n clue when it is turning a tide. Go ahead attack the most influential person on teenage girls today. Good plan.

The left doesn’t know how to deal with many young people today who for completely non-religious reasons see abortion as murder. I believe the environmental/Earth Day cult has backfired on them, as young people can easily see that baby seals are being given protection baby humans aren’t. Also, they don’t believe for a minute (even the pro-abortion ones) that it is not a baby. Some of them may procure abortions, but they know they’ve murdered a child.

“Justin Bieber Thinks ..."

Is that ever true ... about anything?

My kid lives with his feminist-pagan mom and says to me: “The Republicans want women to have children - even if they were raped!”

I say: “How about the baby? Rape is terrible, but why kill an innocent baby? Does the baby get a say?”

He says: “Republicans are for rape!”

I say: “Well, you know, there are ‘children of rape’ in the world. Would you like to go to each of them and tell them they should have been killed?”

He just freezes, and stands there staring into space in a full brain-lock. Let's meet all the other objections first - then when ALL THEY HAVE LEFT is the "rape objection" - we'll mop the floor with them.

I'm guessing that most Freepers (including this one) wouldn't normally care about Justin Bieber's opinions on anything but in this case I applaud him for taking a rational stand against abortion that may not play too well with the Hollywood crowd but will likely have a positive influence on his vast teen audience. That's a good thing, people. Don't nitpick it to death. He's not a politician running for office so I don't care if he isn't 'perfect' on abortion, his comment "it's like killing a baby", although almost comically stating the obvious, (he's not quite 17 so cut him some slack) is welcomed, knowing the very audience that sees/reads it is the one that we're most concerned about. Our kids.

Never, EVER, thought I’d write these words, but...

I am now a Justin Bieber fan. (That doesn’t mean I actually have to listen to any of his music, does it???)

Good for him, for taking a strong stand on life! And to those criticizing him, the young boy took a stronger stand for life than many of the speakers at CPAC and he didn’t flip flop just in time to run as a “conservative” for the GOP nomination, like Mitt and Trump.

‘The studio has been screening the movie (Never Say Never) for many Christian faith leaders in hopes that the film will attract a religious audience, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bieber is quite vocal about his faith during interview, and you can see it as well throughout the film. Many times, Bieber is seen praying before a concert or talking about God as his inspiration.’

I don’t care for his type of music, but I’m inclined to cut this boy a little slack.
How often do you see this boy’s type of behavior among the scum in the rap, hiphop rock music industry?
Maybe he could have some positive influence on young people.

Many more young people are shaking off the shackles of leftist death culture. This young man will undoubtedly influence others. Very good news.

Excellent way to get your kid to think! Hopefully, the lessons you teach him aren’t wiped out when he goes back to his mother.

Although, sometimes, having a parent who is so leftist that there is no room for rational thought in their brains teaches the kids more about the left than they could ever learn through any amount of logical discussion.
