I don't know about the rest of you, but, if I ever find myself in Detroit (for whatever reason), checking out the RoboCop statue would definitely be on my To-Do List!

Hey, if it’s 100% privately funded, no taxpayer money used, why not?

"Dead or alive, you're coming with me."
I think Mayor Bing was hinting that he'd rather have a statue of himself in a Pistons uniform, with short shorts.

Isn't this a little like going to a starving nation and erecting a statue of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee as "inspiration," when food might have been a smarter choice for the money?
Similarly, I'm not convinced that a statue of a movie superhero from the eighties is in the list of top ten priorities for making a safer, nobler Detroit. But it's their money and their town--and it was a pretty cool movie. And maybe it'll give people something new to spray-paint grafitti on.
To: winstonwolf33
Why not? Philly has a statue of a giant clothespin. RoboCop would be a lot cooler.

The movie was set in Detroit, regardless of where it was made.

Well...Philadelphia has it’s “Rocky” statue. I guess it makes sense for every liberal cesspool to idolize some fictional character since reality is generally too hard to deal with in those places.

Actually that movie depicted Detroits future pretty well from a couple decades ago.

Its sad but there are no easy solutions. If the majority took control they would likely treat the minority even worse. The leadership of many Arab countries is the countrys ethnic minority. I'll buy THAT for a dollar!
I liked the movie, quite sarcastic as well as fun.

Really stupid...This statue would only pay homage to a dumb-assed movie cyborg. Just a really dumb idea and how it would add one iota of cultural value to Detroit, I have no idea!

Despite the Detroit mayor's apparent disinterest in erecting a "RoboCop" statue We know a journalist wrote this --as opposed to some bro in his pajamas-- cuz "disinterested" means, OBJECTIVE. It does not mean UNinterested.
The other one journoz screw-up is ARTFUL, which means dishonest (nothing to do with paintings and stuff).
They also blow-it on TORTUOUS, which in fact means CURVY (has nothing to do with torture).

Well, “artful” can refer to one having skill at artwork. It also doesn’t have to mean dishonest—the key part is cleverness (though it does typically imply craftiness or cunning).
And yes, TORTUROUS is the word they want when referring to torture.
And it would be less ambiguous if they stuck to a meaning of unbiased when using disinterested...the other meaning confuses things.
As much as I try to just accept the improper use of words (e.g., “tidal wave” when they mean “tsunami”), it bugs me, and I’m glad I’m not the only one!

Yes, and remember that it was radicals Leftists (the Weathermen) who bombed Le Penseur (The Thinker) in Cleveland. Can't have thought, you know.
