Charges: Drunken Burnsville (Mn) rider's threat halts Amtrak
Minneapolis StarTribune (aka The Red Star) ^ | 2/16/11 | Paul Walsh - Staff Reporter

An intoxicated Burnsville man was pulled by law enforcement from an Amtrak train in western Montana and then said with a laugh that a bag he left behind held something dangerous, according to charges.

The alleged threat by Hussein Abdi Hassan, 24, prompted evacuation of the 140 or so passengers Monday night from the westbound train amid snow that was blowing and drifting from winds topping out at 90 miles per hour, according to charges filed Tuesday in Glacier County.

No bomb was found, but abandoning the train in a treacherous swath of territory was difficult for older passengers and couples with infants, according to the charges. Three people were hurt while getting off the train and then taken to hospitals, the criminal complaint said. The train resumed its trip about 11 hours later.

Hassan remains in jail Wednesday in lieu of $100,000 bail. He was charged with felony criminal endangerment and misdemeanor disorderly conduct and pleaded not guilty.

As much I have a heightened level of distrust towards Moslems, I'm reading this article and thinking "This guy doesn't sound like a terrorist. He sounds like a drunken a$$hole".

From all of the disruption and hassle he caused (not to mention lost revenue by Amtrak and BNSF), I hope he gets the book thrown at him.

Comments or opinions - anyone?

Montana is “Big Sky Country’’, is it not? Couldn’t they have just stopped the train somewhere an tossed him off? Say, off a bridge or something? I mean, who is going to miss one Muslim?

He should be made to pay for time lost and for the tickets
the others had to buy when they missed connections. And
charged with hijacking a train with all that entails.

Of course, he won’t.

He was charged with felony criminal endangerment

Should be at least 140 counts--one per passenger--plus the crew!!

Drunks can make terroristic threats. Terrorists can get drunk. The common denominator is terrorism.

the trip was further delayed for a few hours because Amtrak had to bring in a new crew after the initial crew surpassed its work-hour limit

It's good to be UNION LABOR!
