Conservatives won't let poor Mitt Romney off hook on health care
Wash Post ^ | 2/15/11 | Greg Sargeant

Posted on 02/16/2011 12:03:32 AM PST by pissant

On Friday I argued that Mitt Romney's health care dilemma is akin to a Gordian Knot. Conservatives are insistent that Romney explain his previous support for the individual mandate, in order to prove he's not ideologically suspect, but when he does try to explain it, he only reinforces the sense that he's ideologically malleable and opportunistic.

Don't take my word for it, though. Righty blogger Jennifer Rubin reports that this is exactly how conservatives see it, and adds that his only way out is to repudiate Romneycare completely:

Romney has a huge problem that a wide array of Tea Partyers, Republican activists and officials, and conservative operatives think he can't overcome: RomneyCare. He leads in polls a year before the first primary because of name recognition...

However, if there is one point of consensus among plugged-in Republicans on the 2012 field, it is that Romney can't win unless he does a mea culpa on RomneyCare. Since he didn't and he won't do that, he's not going to be the nominee. Other than Romney admirers (and even some of them!) it's hard to find serious Republican players who disagree with that.

Darn tootin. Not to mention his gay marriage BS and his pimping for the so-called 'assault weapons ban', amongst 1000 other liberal idiocies.

Mitt Romney, the ‘conservative’ who signed the law permitting gay shacking up to be called marriage. That he supported illegal mandates doesn’t shock me either.

Are they talking about the Pro Choice Romney or the Pro Life Romney?

I guess it depends on who he is debating at the time.

Wait, I don’t insist that Romney explain anything. There’s nothing to explain, he’s a statist and no amount of backpedaling will change that.

Just you wait when the liberal media goes overboard in their propaganda that he is the “frontrunner”.

The media will exalt him just like they loved the “maverick” McCain, all the while praying to Satan that the GOP will nominate him.

No thanks Mittens, and you might want to think about losing that oil-slick of a hair-do.

Mitt Romney is more suited to the Democrats anyway.

Romney is like a lizard that changes his colors with the surroundings.
No way I will support Romney.
Better to leave the idiot “magic negro” in charge. Least you know what you have in this marxist turd.

Plain and simple incase we haven’t learned from the McCain debacle: the MSM is trying once again to hijack the Republican nomination process by telling us who we should have as our candidate. Shame on us if we fall once again for a moderate RINO. Better we should stick to our conservative principles and nominate the best person who is able to represent limited Federal government, free market, low taxes and adherence to the Constitution than a ‘middle of the roader’

LETS PUT A STOP TO GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED MEDIA SELECTING THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE IN 2012 AS THEY DID IN 2008!

He didn’t sign anything. There is now “law” permitting gay marriage. It was a court decision - same as Iowa.

But if I told you vote for Ron Paul, you would go into a spastic frenzy like all Paul haters on FR. It is the threat of a 3rd party candidate that should have the republican establishment shaking in their shoes if it nominates RINO Romney in 2012.

Bush and Cheney supported the so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" and that did not stop republicans from supporting them for reelection.

Aside from health care, he was Governor of Massachuttes.

What is good enough for the people of that liberal state is de facto bad for America

Timeline Documents Romney’s Role in Creating Same-Sex “Marriages”

I. Mitt Romney demonstrates his commitment to homosexual “rights” before becoming Governor of Massachusetts in January 2003:

1994 Campaign vs. Ted Kennedy for U.S. Senate: Romney pledged he “will provide more effective leadership” than Kennedy on homosexual rights; endorsed by Log Cabin Republicans.

2000-2002: As head of Salt Lake City Olympic Committee, Romney banned Boy Scouts from participating.

2001 Called first citizens’ petition to define marriage “too extreme” and “bigoted” because it banned civil unions.

2002 Campaign for Governor: Romney makes promises to GLBT community, according to leading Boston homosexual newspaper; endorsed by homosexual activist Log Cabin Republicans.

II. Nov. 18, 2003 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) rules that same-sex marriage is protected in the Mass. Constitution, and gives the Legislature 180 days to act (“Goodridge” ruling).

March 29-31, 2004 Romney seeks stay of SJC ruling until constitutional amendment issue is settled, but Atty. General Reilly refuses to take Governor’s case before SJC. [Did Romney believe that same court that issued Goodridge ruling would seriously consider his request for a stay?]

March 30, 2004 Romney says he’ll “abide by the law of the land as it exists on May 17” and says he would not order town clerks to defy court edict. Romney says he’d not explored the Constitution section giving him power over “causes of marriage” and whether it gives him any legal power to stop same-sex marriage (according to spokesman).

April 12, 2004 Romney spokesman says training sessions for town clerks will begin “with plenty of room to spare before May 17.” Ron Crews of Mass. Coalition for Marriage states hope for an Executive Order to halt the marriages.
