Is that you Junior Sample?
Well that will screw up tracking the sales tax LOL
I live in a Top 20 market in Portland, OR. I guess I don’t see the outrage in this latest conspiracy theory. I drive 1 mile to chain stores.
I'm annoyed about it because no matter what zip I put in, first try being the correct one of course, my Sears Mastercard is rejected and the account ends up being locked. Happened two weeks ago out of town and I was pissed.
My card was just stolen, so I’m not sure how I feel about this.
That was my thought. It also is likely why the ruling was really made - this being Mexifornia.
I am all for privacy but one of the ways to protect from fradulent use of your card is for the salesperson to ask for ID. You would be amazed at how many times people are trying to use a card that doesn’t belong to them which is more often than not confirmed by asking for additional ID. ZIP code is often requested so that a store can maintain statistics on where their customers are from, in other cases it is a vital piece of information related to potential fradulent use of a credit card. If the ZIP code given doesn’t match that on the account address, additional ID should be necessary or the charge denied. If the merchant doesn’t maintain statistical information or use it for fraud pretention then it is usually unnecessary. A simple question of why they want this information should suffice.
It is a very Revolutionary town, the Sudburians pride themselves on it.
ML/NJ
Just say 1060 West Addison, zip 60613
Best address ever!
I buy gas with my debit card and the pump asks me for my ZIP code every time. I just considered it a security measure. I´d want to shut some thief down right off the bat if he goes for gas first just on the possibility that at least that much his criminal enterprise might fail.
I get asked for zip or phone number, and I just say “No thanks” and they move along.
LOL I am happy to have them verify my card with something as useless as a zip code. Hell, give’ em all nine numbers. Still laughing!
My wife lost her Safeway club card years ago so we they said just enter our phone number with the area code. Works every time. Radio Shack always asks me for Zip code even when I pay cash and I just give them a nearby number...
How about Target scanning your ID for buy cold medicine I went there last month I have bad cold so I bought stuff at Target and they ask me what they can’t tell I am adult DUH
Target did that when I bought beer!
“Protection against stolen cards is what I thought the asking was for
Nope, unless your street address is on your card. Its usually marketing of one sort or another, the most common use is to see if they need to open another store out your way.
With a little more work they can send junk mail to you since you already expressed an interest in their product line.”
Mostly used for security. At the pump, if it asks for your zip code and you input one that does not match what is on file with your card company, the pump won’t turn on and you have to start all over again and give the correct zip code. It’s the same for most of the stores, they electronically verify with your card company the zip code that you give, if you give a false one, no purchase for you....
Husband is from Sudbury - they had Minutemen reenactors who would march from Sudbury to Lexington to Concord. I assume they still have them. Unfortunately, the area became very liberal.
It’s all about keeping meth-making ingredients being bought by druggies. Ridiculous. And it’s also impacting every type of cold meds with psuedoephedrine and even powdered baby formula for cutting the product.
Still, a very beautiful town (tell your husband I grew up in Needham, and even we envied Sudbury.)
