Posted on 02/08/2011 6:47:09 AM PST by La Lydia
MANSFIELD Some Students at Mansfield, Texas ISD schools could soon be learning Arabic as a required language. The school district wants students at select schools to take Arabic language and culture classes as part of a federally funded grant. The Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant was awarded to Mansfield ISD last summer by the U.S. Department of Education.
As part of the five-year $1.3 Million grant, Arabic classes would be mandatory at Cross Timbers Intermediate School and Kenneth Davis Elementary School. The program would also be optional for students at T. A. Howard Middle School and Summit High School. Parents at Cross Timbers say they were caught off-guard by the program, and were surprised the district only told them about it in a meeting Monday night between parents and Mansfield ISD Superintendent Bob Morrison.
The DOE has identified Arabic as a language of the future. But parent Joseph Balson was frustrated by the past. Why are we just now finding out about it? asked Balson. Its them (Mansfield ISD) applying for the grant, getting it approved and them now saying theyll go back and change it only when they were caught trying to implement this plan without parents knowing about it.
Trisha Savage thinks it will offer a well-rounded education. I think its a great opportunity that will open doors. We need to think globally and act locally.
Early language skills = better sigint. What’s the problem?
What happened to Spanish and French ???
The single language that should be mandatory for Texans is Spanish. If your going to mandate second language skills.
Way more useful and you take the language skill of Spanish and read Portugese, Italian, French and the three dialects of Spain.
Arab speaking countries are not going to be dominant trading partners, compared to Europe, nor will they be the language of business.
If they are so interested in teaching a language that “could” be useful it would Chinese and some grounding in several dialects.
Think globally and act locally is one of the enviros’ catch phrases designed to force people into adopting nasty reusable grocery bags instead of paper or plastic, and other such Luddite nonsense.
Does anyone know if these morons are also be requiring the teaching of the benefits of honor killings, being stoned to death, or having body parts chopped off? Will they also be teaching the dictates of the Koran with its hatred of infidels such as Jews and Christians?
I would be at the next School Board meeting surrounded by hundreds of parents protesting this outrage. I believe there is a Parents Rights Amendment sponsored by Orrin Hatch which allows a parent to remove their children from objectionable (and against your religious faith) curriculum!
(Actually, Greek, but you get my drift...)
Mandarin and Esperanto are the languages of the future! Spanish, if you want to have philosophical discussions with your gardener. Arabic if you want to discuss business with your cab driver.
Arabic! The language of intolerance and ignorance.
Being forced to learn a specific language? Any specific language? I can only express my opinion of that by using terms commonly used on Democratic Underground, and I decline to use them here.
Yes, I get your drift.
Cambiaron el headline!
How about we have the CIA come in and recruit after they learn Arabic?
It’s good to surrender before the war... at least to the ‘Neville Chamberlains’ in this Texas education district.
One of Rand Paul’s budget cutting ideas is to eliminate the Dept. of Education, from which this stinking idea springs through bribing broke school districts with federal grants.
Everyone ought to contact their Congressman and tell him you are in favor of Congressman Paul’s $500 billion budget reduction. It would do wonders for restoring local control of our children’s education.
How is Arabic a “language of the future”? The MINORITY of Muslims worldwide are Arabs. America’s future is far more tied to Spanish. English and Mandarin are most likely to dominate internationally. Never Arabic.
dude,,, I clicked on this post just for pure entertainment. Yours was my first laugh of the day! lmao
This is the biggest pile of BS I’ve ever heard of in our schools. They are talking about this on KLBJ today.
As long as true Americans don't know Arabic, they can tell us in English one thing and say to their friends, in Arabic, another thing and we have no way of knowing their true thoughts. After all, Sharia and the Koran say it is OK to lie to the infidels.
IMO, this is an excellent idea and We the People should learn Arabic - so we know the enemy as well as they know us.
Now their idiot educators want to teach them Arabic.
What's next, particle physics, or electrical engineering, perhaps?
Here's a novel idea teechers ... why not fulfill your basic responsibilities before shooting for the moon?
Maybe it’s time to pass that law saying that ENGLISH is the OFFICIAL language of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Look to the Department of Education in Washington. Texas is the last stronghold in the country and they will attempt to tear it down. I’m amazed that Texans are allowing this.
Agree with you, but it SHOULD NOT BE MANDATORY. Just sayin;...
And dear lord, do they have any idea how much mayhem ‘ little johnny’ would be able to have in this class?
yeah, pure entertainment when they take yer’ head off
Give 'em hell.
those A’rabs don’t do romance languages but if you find a Kordi or Persian you know you’ll lap it up :D it’s a big tree ain’t it?
Language classes don’t just teach the words/spelling/pronunciation but also teaches the values/culture/etc of that language/region. For example, you learn a great deal about France when learning French. My concern is that the culture of that region will be glossed over and praised as good/democratic/female friendly and great. This is obviously an attempt to glamorize and normalize Islamic countries as being equal to ours. IMHO
I don’t mind our schools teaching a Semitic language but to make it mandatory is tyrannical. At least give them a choice between Hebrew and Arabic.
If you want to insult an Arab in Arabic just say “Ya kalb!” which means “You dog!”.
“The globocrats keep trying to change the basic content of our school system from America-focused to global-focused. That said, I’m glad to see children being encouraged to learn foreign languages, it will enrich their lives and make them better all-around learners. But the language choice should be the child’s own choice, it should not be forced upon them.”
Well, then NO second language should also be a choice.
De nada, Jefe.
Mandatory Arabic Classes Coming To Mansfield (Texas)
No shock here.
There is a reason that Oklahoma voters passed an initiative banning
Sharia Law in Oklahoma.
As I understand it, some cunning Islamics got an ordinance passed in
Richardson, TX that basically endorsed use of Sharia.
All I can say is “Stay the course, Oklahoma”.
No matter how much CAIR b-tches about the “intolerance of ‘Okies’”.
De nada, Jefe.
previous post included wrong Español phrase from my clipboard. Lo siento.
Kafekom kalaman bel Arabia ya hi wah naht!
Let’s think of this unemotionally.
Why Arabic? Well, we will very likely be going to war, and this will be a very major war - against the Muslims. This is a war not of our choosing; they have declared war against the civilized world - and nukes will very likely be used. So, having a generation that speaks the language of our enemy may be useful.
I’d also think Chinese would be useful for future endeavors. As Chinese is, and will likely continue to be a superpower - learning Chinese would be benefitial in dealing in international trade, laws, or technology exchanges. China is already quickly adopting English.
French? What reason is there for French? A pitiful little ex-superpower that is being overrun by Islam; a country that has backstabbed us at every opportunity - they are not a trade partner of significance, they have literally very little to offer aside from a tourist stop.
Spanish? And what, pray tell can we gain by emulating Mexico? Maybe handy if you need to tell someone how often to mow your lawn, or ordering a Burrito without sour cream - but the effort seems wasted.
We learn a langauge to benefit ourselves; not to make it easy for a ‘nobody’ to talk to us. It’s a rough world out there - so you can make yourself either upwardly mobile, or downwardly mobile. I’d suggest going with the upwardly mobile option.
Aside from any opinions on the teaching of Arabic language, I think we can all come together and agree that anyone who makes the above statement is a moron.
Maybe what they really mean is “Islam” the religion of the future.
I graduated from a Catholic High School in 1959. I was told by the pastor that Latin was the only foreign language I’d ever need to know. It was the only language option at that school. Later, in the military and as a civilian, it was discovered through testing, that I had a capacity for learning languages. Since then I had college courses in French, and was professionally trained in Hebrew and Spanish. Personally I’d like to study Arabic just for the intellectual exercise.
So, have the kids learn a little Arabic. Things like:
F*** you, infidel teacher!
Miss Williams, I can see your ankles. You are dressed like a whore.
Mr Principal, I will take your daughter out on a date, kiss her, rape her and behead her.
Women that have jobs outside the home are just prostitutes waiting for the chance to turn tricks. They need to stay at home and raise their husband’s children.
And of course,
SLAY THOSE WHO INSULT THE PROPHET!
