With Egypt in revolt and the countrys future uncertain, concern is growing over whether a new government in the Arab worlds most militarily and industrially advanced country could accelerate an arms race in one of the worlds most volatile regions.
At the heart of the concern is intelligence indicating that Egypt has quietly carried out research and development on weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, chemical, biological and missile technology.
The research and development has continued virtually without pause over the past three decades, according to interviews with U.S. officials and a review of intelligence and other government documents by NBC News.

So what would the purportedly moderate Mubarak have wanted with all this.
Maybe to create havoc if someone tries to force him from office??????
Of course, previous intelligence indicating Iraq was also pursuing a similar course (and duly reported then by MSNBC), was just a bogus pack of lies created by the Bush administration to justify military action.
MSNBC has no memory...or is it selective memory.
And keep in mind that the leading opposition figure in Egypt, El Baradai, as chairman of the IEAE was in bed (big time) with Iran in helping them avoid UN inspections and continue their development of nuclear weapons.
Too little worry, too late.
This is (the typical) CR@P from MSNBC...
(IIRC) ...if these morons did ANY research, they'd find articles about Nasser's
use of Mustard Gas against Yemeni people in 1960s'
So the other shoe didn’t just drop, it slapped us in the face.
Libya had a close relationship with Egypt prior to Libyas turning over its nuclear stuff...uranium was shipped to the US. The railroad equipped tunnels running south from Libya to Chad, and the same equipped tunnel from south of the Libyan capital all the way to the Egyptian border were used by both countries for nuclear cooperation as well as chemical and WMD programs. Consider that the programs, housed underground for well over a thousand miles in tunnels, could have had a continuing life up to the present.
Doubtful more likely as a means of dealing with other enemies in the region including but not limited to Isreal. If I were an Isreali I would be busy cleaning out the “strong room” checking the expiration date on the gas mask filters & practicing donning the gas mask. Also would be getting in some extra range time as things are gonna go back to the 70’s with regard to Arab-Isreali relations.
