Frances Fox Piven’s Violent Agenda
The National Review ^ | January 24, 2011 | Stanley Kurtz

Posted on 01/24/2011 4:57:06 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

The campaign to use the tragic shootings in Tucson to silence conservatives continues. The latest twist is an attempt to highlight anonymous threats against leftist scholar and strategist Frances Fox Piven as a way of forcing Glenn Beck, a critic of Piven, off the air, or at least prohibiting him from mentioning her on his Fox News television show. This affects me as well, since an excerpt from my recent appearance on Beck’s show to discuss Piven has been aired in the course of the controversy. My new book, Radical-in-Chief, extensively treats Piven’s influence on contemporary leftist strategy, and on Barack Obama’s political development. If Beck is forced to stop talking about Piven, efforts will surely be made to silence me and other conservative critics of Piven.

It is extraordinary that conservatives should be charged with stirring up violence at a moment when Piven, in an editorial in The Nation, has called for an American movement of “strikes and riots” on the model of the one recently seen in Greece. The anonymous threats against Piven are reprehensible. I condemn them in the strongest terms. Yet it is not conservatives but Piven and The Nation who advocate violence. Neither Piven nor The Nation should be forcibly silenced, but they certainly ought to be criticized. Instead, The Nation is leading the effort to silence those who have rightly condemned Piven’s call for rioting in America.

An article by Brian Stelter in Saturday’s New York Times is a thinly disguised gesture of support for The Nation’s campaign. The piece downplays Piven’s radicalism, noting that her widely criticized call for intentionally creating a political and economic crisis in America’s welfare system was made 45 long years ago.....

This argument of "they said this years ago" is a tired old one and repeatedly used by the Left to defend those close to the administration.

To cite one example: John P. Holdren, [advisor to President Barack Obama for Science and Technology, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Co-Chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology]

Holdren has said He Would Use ‘Free Market’ to ‘De-Develop the United States’ as well as other radical ideas espoused in "Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions" written with Paul and Anne H. Ehrlich in 1973.

More recently he offered to science graduate students this: U.S. Can’t Expect to Be Number One in Science and Technology Forever

Strikes and riots are coming to every country when it runs out of money weather Piven said that or not.

Kurtz continued the “attack” against her lies:

“...Progressive radio host Amy Goodman recently invited Piven to appear on her show to speak about Beck and her other conservative critics. Goodman played an excerpt from my appearance on Beck’s show. There I noted Piven’s prominent role at the Socialist Scholars Conferences that Barack Obama attended in the 1980s. Commenting on my statement, Piven said that it was “crazy” to call her a socialist.

This stunning denial flies in the face of clear evidence that Piven is, and has long been, one of America’s most prominent socialists. She is currently listed as an “Honorary Chair” of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), a prestigious appointment bestowed on only the most esteemed, influential, and long-serving DSA leaders. Piven was elevated to the status of honorary chair in 2003, after years of service as a DSA vice chair. If Piven can’t be honest about her own socialism, how can we trust her claims about anything else? In Radical-in-Chief, I document the presence of intentionally stealthy socialists throughout the world of community organizing, many of them close colleagues and mentors of Barack Obama. But for Piven to deny her own socialism in the face of the wealth of public evidence to the contrary beats all I’ve ever seen.....”

The socialists are in full blown CYA mode...throwing (spinning furiously) every “rule for radicals” at their critics.

The shooter in Phoenix was a crazy liberal so she shouldn’t worry about Conservatives. Doubt she has had any threats and is making it up.

Lefties like Frances Fox Piven often have a Doberman bark and a Chihuahua bite.

When confronted, lefties often run away with their tails between their legs.

Probably true but the fact that Piven is touring colleges encouraging it makes her at least partly responsible.

Fortunately she's also ignorant of the America that exists outside the cities. She's leading her mob to burning cities and starvation. Flyover country on the other hand is a whole lot smarter and won't be calling for the salvation of marxism.

I view great cities as pestilential to the morals, the health and the liberties of man. True, they nourish some of the elegant arts, but the useful ones can thrive elsewhere, and less perfection in the others, with more health, virtue and freedom, would be my choice.

Cloward and Piven first called for the over loading of the US system 45 years ago, and now use that as an excuse. Pretending that they have changed their spots, when they are heroes of the left and Chrissy Mathews to this day.

OTOH, how many years was it between the writings of Marx and Engels to the Russian Revolution? Mao? Khmer Rouge? I can answer that approximately, 65 years in Russia, 95 years in China, and 110 years in SE Asia. Years, decades, even centuries mean NOTHING to this evil philosophy, and I am not afraid to call the adherents of this philosophy what they indeed are, EVIL. (that is for the mealy mouthed neo-cons like Medved). I don't think the left is loving and compassionate, but misguided, they are unquestionably doing evil in the sight of man.

Communism/Socialism is a scourge of the planet. It needs to be destroyed, but I fear only a return of Christ will be strong enough to suffice. Mankind AND this country are too much in love with the concept of "gifting" the property of the middle class to the "po folk".

In the last paragraph, Kurtz nails it with the money quote that exposes the accusers (Piven and The Nation) as the actual guilty parties, for the last paragraph:
In her December 2010 Nation column, Piven wrote: “Local protests have to accumulate and spread — and become more disruptive — to create pressures on national politicians. An effective movement of the unemployed will have to look something like the strikes and riots that have spread across Greece. . . .

Given Piven’s strategic stance, it’s clear that she and The Nation are in fact calling for violence. Her denial of this lacks all credibility.

Game, set, match!

As if sedition, bloodlust, and incitement to riot could ripen and age like fine old cheese.

This stunning denial flies in the face of clear evidence that Piven is, and has long been, one of America’s most prominent socialists.

She knows what she's doing. Denial is useful, because time is money. The socialists have plunged the knife of spending into America and she is bleeding profusely, as planned. They will tell any lie necessary or useful, just to keep her bleeding. They know it is fatal. They don't care. They get to drink from that flood of blood. It's revenge you know, because those foolish capitalists don't appreciate their inherent right to rule. The really silly part is that they think their corporate banking sponsors will pat them on the head when it's all over.

It'll be a firing squad. Always has been.

____

The Radical Left must have a playbook. Whenever an action by the Radical Left is exposed, the Radical Left claims they are now receiving anonymous threats.

History and common sense tells us leftwing liberalism/socialism/communism has ALWAYS failed. ALWAYS.

In addition, it is pure EVIL. It is responsible for >200 MILLION deaths in the 20th century.

Only an idiot, someone insane or someone who embraces evil will support this leftwing darkness.

“Only an idiot, someone insane or someone who embraces evil will support this leftwing darkness.”

There is a common thread here that is recognized partially, but not given sufficient credit as a causative factor as it should be. That common thread is the coalescence of ego in academics. Academics, like liberal politics, attracts many people who have a need to be ‘special’ and who think of themselves as intellectually superior to the general populace as a whole, and specifically those who do not agree with them.

Piven is one of these, in my opinion. These are generally people who produce nothing but their own writings, but nonetheless want to have tremendous influence on the world. They are haute, and arrogant, and generally hypocritical. Thanks to the soapbox that their devotees in the MSM provide them, however, they have inordinate influence on multiple segments of society.

In our time, information has become so freely available that there is no longer any reason to believe that there is any more expertise or knowledge at a university than there is in general society. It is high past the time that we stop affording undeserved stature to people who care about feeding their narcissistic egos more than they do about preserving a happy, responsible, and moral future for our children.
