Allegory of the Cave of the Mama Grizzly

It was my online friend narciso, the pen name of a brilliant commenter on the day's events, who first summed up this week's folderol over Sarah Palin. "One is struck," he noted, " by how much Plato's 'Tale of the Cave' seems to fit this paradigm ... Those that only follow the networks, or the Times or USA Today, even, are always 'unexpectedly surprised,' when reality doesn't match the paradigm they've assimilated by osmosis."

There was a lot of sage stuff online trying to explain what happened and why to Sarah Palin this week, and although I'll mention some of the best analysis I found, my own belief is that the vicious treatment of her stems as much as anything from the discordant feelings she inspires as she takes media prisoners out of their mental cave and into the bright sun and exposes the puppeteers as fools and knaves.

.....In my view, the media tarring of Sarah Palin respecting the Tucson tragedy is an event which -- perhaps not this week, but soon enough -- will be remembered for having exposed the political class and cultural elites as the puppeteers projecting their own ignorance and violent hatred of Sarah onto her. Those who uncritically followed the media will come to see that they have spent too much time in the cave and need to get out into the sunshine and face some realities.

I think others at first will hate Palin for taking them into the blinding light, but that with time and more media stunts like last week's, they and the Times and USA readers, the present consumers of the medias' distortions, will get some glimpses of life outside the cave and come to realize the distinction between truth and reality on one hand and projected lies and make-believe on the other.

It won’t be pretty but there are many on both sides who need to be exposed for what they are.

Fairly decent analysis. Rather a compilation or summary of two years of observation by thousands of people over the Internet and various other easily accessed media.

Actually most of FR figured most of these points out some time ago..and many on the left and those who would do a fair assessment or have a fair bone about them have realized most of these points. I argued very similar ideas myself, even during the ‘08 campaign.

The problem is..why are thinking and fair-minded people still not on her side? The odd “poof” hair doesn’t explain it but it should have been corrected...but most people can look passed it, except maybe the young people who think she is more of a mother figure trying to rip off a younger person hairstyle..a seemingly weird taboo or right of youth I suppose. But the young have a problem voting conservative by nature so that doesn’t sum the problem up.

It seems the underlying unspoken force against her is very basic, namely her poor speech rhythm..which she has never corrected. It makes it impossible to overcome the propaganda that she is “stupid” when people tune out after a few of her odd, hard to understand sentences. People are giving up.

Good God. Please.... tell me you're joking. Please make it known that this is offered in humor, and not a supposedly serious thought rolling around in what is supposed to be your brain.

Please... I'm begging...

It’s her speech pattern? Haha!

Well then, that so called problem was not there when she gave her video response, that why’s the pollsters never asked the respondents of any network polls if they actually seen the entire video response which was very Presidential and a praise on American Exceptionalism, media curves which is an liberal focus group company played that video to a mixed group of people and she got high praise......the liberals and the MSM are indeed living in their own cave

We have a class of useful idiots in our country who have some college education and are essentially incapable of reason and discernment. They are the prisoners in the cave, convinced of their own brilliance not realizing that they are aware only of shadows projected by philosophic, political and psychological manipulators. They have a demonstrated contempt for truth and reality which they ridicule, individualize and subjectivize.

The problem with Palin is that she is joyous, profoundly competent and summarily rejects every tenet of elitist's false doctrines. She laughs and scoffs at their inanities. She is, above all, eminently believable.

Ineluctible does, indeed, best describe Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin in my mind, is a modern day Joan of Arc.

Joan who saved France is akin to what Sarah is trying to do; Save the United States.

Hopefully, with respects to their safety, may Sarah live to a ripe, old age of 100+!!

Lord, I hope not! Look what happened to Joan!
I consider Sarah to be America's answer to Margaret Thatcher.

You did read my last sentence, didn’t you?

Hopefully Sarah lives to a 100+

But just like Joan who was attacked by the Catholic leaders, Sarah is attacked by America’s ruling elite.

Pray for Sarah!

Excellent article by the great Clarice Feldman. I think her allegory is so, so true particularly the ending when the Palin haters, especially women who hate her, come face to face with WHY they hate her. I think in 1980 there was a much softer, but real, hatred for Reagan that really did not dissipate materially until after the debate with Carter when the American people saw with their own eyes that Reagan was not what the media had portrayed him.

Sarah has the same opportunity, indeed a greater one. She has been savaged by the media/leftists more than Reagan, but the media has even less credibility than it had in 1980. So, when the epiphany comes, and the scales fall from the eyes of those who hate her, or should I say “think they hate her”, the political dam break will be far more cataclysmic than it was in the Carter-Reagan election. This is why I have often predicted not a close election in 2012 but a landslide victory for Palin. The media has, in effect, bitten its tail with this extended “two minutes of hate” directed at Palin. Only with Herculean efforts has the leftist-media axis been able to temporarily tamp down her approval, but the effect is only temporary, unless, they hope, she declines to run as a result of their full bore assault. The effort is risky as well, because it has cost the media dearly in precious credibility it will need for the general election. Attacks on Palin during the general election, which would have been more effective if deployed closer to the election, will prove useless at that point, since they will have already fired all their ordinance—such as it is—at her. If she runs, the media’s early blitzkrieg strategy will have failed.

When the cap is off the rumbling well, so to speak, and Sarah Palin’s decency, vision and love for this country begins to extrude from the media vice, the resulting groundswell of support will generate an electoral geyser the likes of which we have not seen since 1980.

I know! She needs some more ummms, and uhhhhs, and I-I-I's in her speeches.

The real reason why so many people think she's stupid is because most people believe what they're told over and over again.

In fact most who think she's stupid are not that bright themselves. It makes them feel better about themselves to be able to laugh at someone 'stupid' like her.

As I have said before, Sarah is the Scapegoat. The liberals project their own sins on her and then try to banish her to the wilderness so they won't have to repent and face their black souls.

Excellent article! His Allegory of the Cave theme could also apply to those who blindly follow the “intellectual elites” and/or the “inside the beltway elites”. I have to give much credit to Sarah Palin for dragging me into the light so I can see how ineffectual those inside the beltway conservatives have become. The ones who have been there so long they can only operate within the existing paradigm. It’ll take a paradigm shift of new and bold thinking going to Washington DC to straighten out the mess the “puppeteers” have created. Sarah Palin is my choice to lead this effort.

When the mind of an ardent opponent is changed, he becomes an ardent supporter. When the truth about Sarah Palin is revealed to people in a campaign, there will be a tsunami of support heading her way.
