There's a military museum at Gallipoli, in Turkey. It has various artifacts from the battle there during WW I. Among the exhibits are two examples of bullets colliding with each other in mid-air. Obviously, they weren't intended to do that. It's more an indication of how fierce the fighting was. Nevertheless, it shows that if you throw up enough lead, some of it's going to hit incoming rounds.
