Tunisia on The Way to Islamic Rule

And Syria’s opposition hails Tunisians

Tunisians are on the path to establishing Islamic rule in their country after having toppled a Western-backed dictator, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday.

"It is very clear that the nation of Tunisia rose up against a Western-backed dictator using Islamic, humane, monotheistic and justice-seeking slogans," he told a cheering crowd in the central city of Yazd.

"In one word, the Tunisians are after establishing Islamic law and rules," the hardliner said in a speech broadcast live on state television.

Ahmadinejad's remarks come after 228 lawmakers in the 290-member Iranian parliament voiced their support on Tuesday for what they termed the "revolutionary movement" of the Tunisian people.

"The parliament of the great Iranian nation strongly supports the revolutionary movement of the brave Tunisian people ... and wishes success to them," the MPs said in a signed statement.

Weeks of turmoil in the Arab state of North Africa forced president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali to flee abroad last week after 23 years in power and left scores of people dead.

The revolt was sparked by the suicide of a university graduate prevented by police from selling fruit and vegetables to make a living.

Syria’s opposition

Opponents of Syria's autocratic leader said on Tuesday that the overthrow of dictatorship in Tunisia undermines claims by Arab governments that repression is the only alternative to either chaos or extreme Islamist rule.

The US diverts more and more corn to ethanol production.

This means there is less food available for consumption.

Food prices rise.

Governments get toppled, and a western-backed authoritarian regime in Tunisia gets replaced with an Islamic authoritarian regime.

But at least we can feel good about ourselves in having gasoline that is 10% ethanol. Never mind that it takes more regular gas to make the same amount of ethanol.

The Tunisians are frightened by that talk from Iran and the autocracy will remain intact. We don’t know yet who the new ruler will be but he won’t be a democrat.

EVERY TIME a military dictator in an Islamic pig-hole is toppled, he is followed by a popular Islamic Theocracy - look at Iraq, Iran and soon to be Afghanistan.

We should let these people simmer in their own waste and just make sure we insulate them and/or bomb the heck out of them if they threaten us.

This is something we might actually agree with the Chinese about.

Not sure Tunisia is going to follow the Iranians’ desires and wishes to become an Islamic theocracy.

Tunisia is part of the Francosphere, they are not backwater hillbillies streaming out of the mountains of central Iran ala 1979.

Tunisia has a huge youth population that are very much ingrained with, and are active participants in and contributors to the European/French popular culture...

Worse than an Islamic theocracy, Tunisia might morph into the slums of France if they state can’t solidify it’s control.

And before the pot calls the kettle black,

Tunisia’s bond are still trading 100 basis points lower than the State of Illinois.

The world markets have more trust in the robustness of Tunisian people, economy and government than that of the State of Illinois.

They are just rebuilding the ottoman empire as a stepping stone to their caliphate... the Iranian intermeddling is nothing to be concerned with...

what you write is untrue

most of the energy to produce ethanol comes from
coal or natural gas.

the petroleum to ethanol energy gain
is more than six to one
