20 NATO oil tankers on fire in Pakistan

A group of unidentified gunmen in southwestern Pakistan have set ablaze 20 NATO tankers carrying oil to US-led soldiers stationed in war-hit Afghanistan.

According to some witnesses, unidentified armed men on Friday night opened live ammunition on tankers at a time when the drivers were inside a roadside restaurant near Dera Murad Jamali in Balochistan province in southwestern Pakistan, a Press TV correspondent reported on Saturday.

There were no reports of casualties in the incident, but witnesses said the flames of fire spread to a nearby restaurant and a shop.

The assailants were seen fleeing the area in their cars, but no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Witnesses have pointed to the late arrival of the police forces at the time of the attack.

According to Pakistani officials, nearly 80 percent of the fuel, spare parts, and other non-lethal supplies needed for the US-led soldiers in Afghanistan initially arrive in the southern port of Karachi from where they are transported to the neighboring Afghanistan.

NATO supply trucks in Pakistan are frequent targets of Taliban groups in the country.

The incident took place on the very same day that Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari met with his US counterpart Barack Obama in Washington for talks ranging from security issues to cooperation in fights against Taliban and al-Qaeda groups in war-ravaged Afghanistan.

They need more than “police” — they need military cover.

I read somewhere last year that because of the bribes and losses it cost about $100 a gallon delivered to the troops.

I wonder how far that will drive a Abram’s tank?

Wonder no more ... 0.6 miles per gallon. 60 gallons per hour or $6,000

I am sure there is a good plan to get our troops out of that hellhole when the place erupts, which it will.

The question is will Barack hussien allow the military to exucute the plan or will he abandon the troops?

Some remind me why we are ‘upping our aid to Pakistan”.

We are dumping millions of dollars down a very deep hole.

Greasy Spoon stops in Pakistan?

Maybe they should make them stop at donut shops instead so the police are nearby to protect them and their precious cargo.

You are kidding - it is January and the US has told them that there is no Cost of living increase this year as they have rearranged the basket of goodies - AK47 and stuff that go BANG is off the list as being non-essential.

You can imagine how the policemen, Al Qaida and assorted war lords feel about that back stabbing. They are already in hock for just those very things and they have sky rocketed as the dollar weakens.

Uncle Sam will be reassessing their cost of living strategy for Pakistan so all will be well soon.
