Why the Left Lost It
Wall Street Journal ^ | January 13, 2011 | Editorial

....The divide between this strain of the American left and its conservative opponents is about more than politics and policy It goes back a long way, it is deep, and it will never be bridged.......

The Rosetta Stone that explains this tribal divide is Columbia historian Richard Hofstadter's classic 1964 essay, "The Paranoid Style in American Politics." ...Hofstadter's essay taught generations of young, left-wing intellectuals about conservatism and the right.

After Hofstadter, the American right wasn't just wrong on policy. Its people were psychologically dangerous and undeserving of holding authority for any public purpose. By this mental geography, the John Birch Society and the tea party are cut from the same backwoods cloth.

"American politics has often been an arena for angry minds," Hofstadter wrote. "In recent years we have seen angry minds at work mainly among extreme right-wingers, who have now demonstrated in the Goldwater movement how much political leverage can be got out of the animosities and passions of a small minority."

Frank Rich, Oct 17: "Don't expect the extremism and violence in our politics to subside magically after Election Day—no matter what the results. If Tea Party candidates triumph, they'll be emboldened. If they lose, the anger and bitterness will grow."

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in the Huffington Post: "Jack's death forced a national bout of self-examination. In 1964, Americans repudiated the forces of right-wing hatred and violence with an historic landslide in the presidential election between LBJ and Goldwater. For a while, the advocates of right-wing extremism receded from the public forum. Now they have returned with a vengeance—to the broadcast media and to prominent positions in the political landscape."

This isn't just political calculation. It is foundational belief.

So, yes, Tucson has indeed been revealing. On to 2012.

When the left is rejected by voters, they never admit they did anything wrong. They come up with excuses about being maligned or misunderstood. With Bambi, it’s because of “racism.” John Kerry was “swiftboated.” During the Clinton years, it was the “vast right wing conspiracy.” Same theme, different names.

Yes. The leadership (political agitators) of the Left and their handmaidens in the MSM, must continually spoon feed hate and class envy to their ever shrinking block of supporters.

In 1964, Americans repudiated the forces of right-wing hatred and violence with an historic landslide in the presidential election between LBJ and Goldwater.

Not as historic as the crushing defeat of the Left a few years later.

Wrong. After JFK was shot, ther MEDIA entered the fray to portray conservatives as dangerous war-mongers who would get us all blown up. Remember the nuke ad?

Oh yes.

Dums could be down to one Seator and 10 Reps, and they would still be writing tales of Repub and Indie, intrigues and stupidity not to mention a hateful streak.

Make no mistake, they are rounding up all the people hurt by the past two years of dum Rule. Holding them in the wings to spring on the voters as victims of the 2010 REPUB elections.

“,,,,feed hate and class envy to their ever shrinking block of supporters.”

With 61% of Black children being killed in the womb in NYC, there will be a rapidly shrinking segment of the Democrat base. If the nation lasts long enough, a generation of conservative Christian citizens is on the horizon. We need to fight fiercely for freedom until they take over because the godless will try to bind them into subjection as has happened repeatedly in the history of the world.

The clip of Mark Penn stating that the Dems, and this administration, “needed an Oklahoma City type incident” in order to recover from their “shellacking” on November 2, 2010 should be played on a continuous loop on every available Conservative website. It is repugnant, to me, the complete disregard the MSM has shown for this despicable utterance.

It's about political calculation, all right. Democrat operatives are willing to do anything necessary to achieve their goals.

Remember "Mattie" in the movie Body Heat? She was willing to do "whatever is necessary." She's the spirit of the Democrat Party of the 21st century.

As for believing their absurd claims--if they do, they are deeply delusional.

This is what he really should have said (and probably meant in the back of his mind) about liberalism!

Stop them from re gaining ground in 2012 and again in 2014 and they will be in the political wilderness. I like that. For many of them that would be for the rest of their lives, I like that.

So the attacks will continue and get worse, but they just expose themselves as the radicals they are, un fit for holding public office at any level.

Agreed, between the McCarty (he was right) style hearings of the Church commission forever putting the CIA on defense, to the election of the national nightmare Jimmah Carter. The Left showed it’s ugly underbelly.

Ronald Reagan, stopped them in their tracks and began to reverse the damage. Unfortunately GHW Bush, who had escaped Churches vicious attack became President. Reversing Reagans work.
I believe the current Right is falling victime to the Lefts tactics again. They are hellbent on going after Social Security. Medicaid and Medicare. These are programs that benefit PEOPLE directly.
I submit that the GOP and Indies should go straight to the heart of the matter. Government agencies that through fiat CONTROL American lives. EPA,EDU,HHS, etc etc. Most Americans do not realize how these departments effect their lives.

There is no doubt that the left is hoping that the actions of this Congress will produce people to put in political ads come 2012, blaming Repubs for any and all perceived hardships.
Becareful Congress, they are hoping for a plethera of victims of cuts made by you. Be specific in your cuts. And aim them at the true problem, cancerous growth of Government Reg Agencies.

They're rallying fellow travelers from the growing, global pool of socialists, working to tie all these groups together.

In their march toward socialism, this administration is working day and night to enlarge and torque all government agencies to the left.

Liberals like JFK, Jr. are truly living in a bubble. They are completely incapable of seeing how out of touch they are with the vast majority of the American people.

This nails it on the roots of the attempted Big Lie the Left has been trying to build around Tuscon.

“The leadership (political agitators) of the Left and their handmaidens in the MSM, must continually spoon feed hate and class envy to their ever shrinking block of supporters.” ~ Cincinatus’ Wife

And here’s another example of it:

KGO talk show host Ray Taliaferro said, “So I don’t need anybody calling me this morning to defend Sarah Palin. There’s no defense. She needs to be arrested. She needs to be tried. And I don’t believe in execution.... She needs to be put behind bars for the rest of her life.”

Monday 2010-01-10 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. segment, at 22:53 into the recording from http://vaca.bayradio.com/kgo_archives/?d=1#

This audio will remain online until it gets replaced by next Monday’s audio.

RFK’s death made him a martyr. Repudiation in our republic comes from electoral defeat, not death at the hands of a madman.
