Democrats on Day 1: Zero New Ideas
-- After months of complaining that Governor McDonnell's transportation plan isn't good enough, the only ideas from Democrats are higher taxes and no real plans--
The 2011 Session of the Virginia General Assembly is off and running. While Governor McDonnell and the entire GOP team are working to improve the Commonwealth's roads, streamline government, and hold the line on taxes, Democrats are ... sitting on their hands.
Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman Brian Moran admitted to the Washington Post that not only does his party have no plan, they don't intend to produce one, either.
"We spent eight years promoting transportation and various plans, only to be stymied by House Republicans," Moran said. "I really think it's important that this governor provide a transportation plan that he promised during the campaign."
So, no plan to deal with transportation. Let's see what else the Democrats have come up with this session:
· Taxes on plastic grocery bags, HB 2047
· Higher taxes on cigarettes, HB 1750
· Higher income taxes, HB 2299
· Higher gas taxes, HB 1531
· More gas taxes, HB 1413
· Even more gas taxes, SB 833
To recap: New taxes, higher taxes, higher taxes, higher taxes, higher taxes, different and higher taxes, and higher taxes.
Something tells me that's not quite the agenda that Virginia voters endorsed in November 2009 and 2010.
Virginia Democrats: Zero New Ideas... Just Higher Taxes
