Consider: if American Muslims, who enjoy Western benefits—including democracy, liberty, prosperity, and freedom of expression—are still being radicalized, why then do we insist that importing these same benefits to the Muslim world will eliminate its even more ingrained form of "radicalization"?

After all, the mainstream position, the only one evoked by politicians, both Democrat and Republican, is that all the sacrifices America makes in the Muslim world (Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.), will pay off once Muslims discover how wonderful Western ways are, and happily slough off their Islamist veneer, which, as the theory goes, is a product of—you guessed it—a lack of democracy, liberty, prosperity, and freedom of expression. Yet here are American Muslims, immersed in the bounties of the West—and still do they turn to violent jihad.

In short, America needs to rethink its strategy for the war on terrorism—both at home and abroad. . . .

The logic in this article is flawed. The fact that a handful of American Muslims become radicalized, out of the millions that exist in this country, does not mean that the majority of people in Muslim countries will not adhere to the benefits of a more democratic, western culture.

I think the Bush doctrine of advancing more democratic, western values in the Middle East is a good one, and will pay long term benefits.

The thing that bothers me is that the Quorum teaches what a Muslims should do to nonbelievers, kill them unless they embrace the teachings of the Quorum. Every one of them believes this, for not believing is a death sentence. When I hear them proclaiming something else I will rethink my position. But for now I do not trust any Muslim.

That would work under most situations;but the problem is fundamental Muslims following the Koran and Hadiths as written. They have no choice but to subjugate, convert or kill anyone who does not believe "There is only one God and Muhammed is his prophet"

The fundamental Muslims are doing God's bidding, they are not fighting for any country, family tribe etc..They do what is necessary to please God and to gain a promised eternal reward for themselves. Killing Infidels is a way to accomplish that. Adopting Infidel ways is an affront to their God and they won't buy into that bribe offered by us Infidels. Some will become our "Useful Idiots" and collaborate with us Infidels but the fundamentalists won't.

1.The basis of the problem being religious has to be stressed.

2.Diversions and excuses to avoid the reality of Islam like" "Religion of Peace", and "Radical extremists", and " Hijackers, has to be confronted and shot down.
