KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas church has decided to not protest at the funeral of a 9-year-old girl killed in a shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz. Shirley Phelps-Roper of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka says church members will skip Thursday's funeral of Christina Taylor Green in Tucson.
Phelps-Roper says the church decided against the picket in exchange for airtime...
Phelps-Roper says the group will picket the Friday funeral of U.S. District Judge John Roll and at the intersection where Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and others were shot. The Arizona Legislature unanimously passed a measure Tuesday banning protests at or near funeral sites.

I’m all for free speech, but these folks are nuts...how do you silence nuts in a free society?
Phelps and wife are Democrat lawyers and former fund raisers for Albert Gore. They live off the law suits they institute against people they inspire to act out. Nice people.
Who funds these Westboro assclowns? The answer to that one would be very interesting.
They should have protested. They need a good beating.

I think even they figured out that there is just one thing you don’t mess with, and that is the grief of a murdered child by both the family and strangers alike.

So they didn't really agree to not picket. They had to be bribed.

As close as it ever came to that was in Oklahoma, where they demonstrating somewhere and got the tires of their minivan slashed while they were off doing their evil deeds. The worse thing about that was that some towing service, Triple A or something, helped them get replacement tires. Just saying...
I don’t believe the goal should be to silence nuts. The goal should be to allow them to spew so that the public can see how vile they are, in a manner that doesn’t infringe on other people’s rights.
I don’t trust them to keep their word. Keep protecting the little girl’s funeral.
BTW: Should have mentioned that I do not agree to (in effect) paying ransom so the funeral could take place undisturbed. These people should not be provided air-time IMO.

Well...I don’t want to silence anyone, but how would one feel to see/hear these nuts just a few yards away from the funeral ceremony of a loved one?...for example, the funeral of my dad, a WWII vet (82nd airborne)...A tough call...
