Mysterious black bag in hand, Jared Loughner ran into the desert, his angry father stopping pursuit in his truck.
Hours after Randy Loughner's futile confrontation with his 22-year-old son Saturday morning, six people were shot dead and more than a dozen others wounded -- and Jared Loughner was in custody.
The sheriff's deputies who swarmed the Loughners' house removed what they describe as evidence Jared Loughner was targeting Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who doctors said Tuesday was breathing on her own for the first time after taking a bullet to the forehead. Among the handwritten notes was one with the words "Die, bitch," which authorities told The Associated Press they believe was a reference to Giffords.
Investigators with the Pima County Sheriff's Department previously said they found handwritten notes in Loughner's safe reading "I planned ahead," "My assassination" and "Giffords." Capt. Chris Nanos said all the writings were either in an envelope or on a form letter Giffords' office sent him in 2007 after he signed in at one of her "Congress on Your Conner" events -- the same kind of gathering where the massacre occurred.
On the morning of the shooting, a mumbling Jared Loughner fled after his father asked him why he was removing a black bag from the trunk of a family car, said Nanos and Rick Kastigar, chief of the department's investigations bureau. Investigators are still searching for the bag.

Maybe this is a typical liberal cover for the government union worker by the Sheriff.
Call me a cynic, but these new details have the smell of lawyerly backtracking to create plausible deniability to me.
Oh, so a “mysterious black bag” popped out of the trunk of an unidentified car in the hands of Jared Loughner? Why, it must’ve contained that dastardly gun, never been in that house, oh no. Or, that’s the conclusion we’re being encouraged to reach.
I suppose a beat up pickup truck careening through the neighborhood chasing a man on foot down the street and then apparently offroad would have a few witnesses, being such a peculiar occurence in broad daylight as it was. Particularly since the family was apparently already regarded as peculiar, somebody looking out the window, perhaps. “Oh, look dear, those strange people are chasing their son with a truck, oops, there they go out into the desert. Isn’t that just the *strangest* thing, should we call the police?”
What of the 9 mm he reputedly was so handy with? Was this in the house, or was it kept in the mysterious black bag in the trunk of an unidentified car, too?
And, why does an unemployed, mentally ill 22 year old have a safe? We’re apparently to assume that only their son knew the combination and that this was his personal safe. Peculiar, huh?
This is all carefully constructed to put distance between the parents and the knowledge of their son’s actions.
Probably because he's paranoid.I'll bet it's a desk top model.
One of his friends said that Jerry was a ROLE MODEL for all the rest of them because he held down a steady job at Eddie Bauer, he was very organized, he was immaculately groomed and he dressed well. Jared AKA Jerry worked as a retail sales clerk at Eddie Bauer.
These shootings were done by one person, and one person only—and nobody “made” him do it.
He apparently has some wires crossed in his brain, and the problem seems to be that he wasn’t off enough to be institutionalized, but was obviously too sick to be walking the streets.
There were plenty of signs along the way.........
Curious what the timing was of the chase relative to the assassination attempt, as well the time of the call for pick up, or when, and where that pick up occured by the taxi driver. Then, and only then will I believe something like this chase in the desert even happened.
The father must have known what was in the bag. Why else would he chase his son?
Some lib tard is at work on a script for a movie, it’s going to portray conservatives, tea party, fox news, and talk radio as evil, could even manufacture a conspiracy that the good sheriff discovers, this was done because dear leader is black. People on this site will be hayseeds, racist, pickup driving w/ gun racks.
I actually heard on the radio news that there was a witness to the father chasing Jared away from the home into the desert. Reportedly, Jared was running with the bag.
I don’t know, but that’s what I heard yesterday afternoon.
Why was the father chasing him after he removed the “black” bag? Doesn’t everyone chase thier son into the desert after he removes a black bag from the trunk? Dad knows whats in the bag? Sheriff blabber mouth points fingers and makes accusations, let see if this kook has a record and what sheriff blabbermouth was doing about this. Sounds like we’re once agian not getting all the info thats out there. Hushed up like Fort Hood
It would explain why he had no money on him. The cabbie had to go to the store with him to get paid.
I figure the shooter ran into the desert. When he saw his father was no longer chasing him, he backtracked to civilization. Hailed a cab with a promise to pay driver at the destination, which conveniently was where Rep Giffords was. It's obvious nothing was going to stop him from keeping his "appointment".
Clue: It's the black spot in the desert, behind the third medium sized cactus on the left.
Hm, otoh, it's probably buried. Look for a fresh lump in the sand, bring a metal detector.
Jared Loughner ran into the desert
angry father ... pursuit
six people were shot dead
deputies who swarmed the Loughners' house
removed .... evidence
previously said they found handwritten notes
Loughner fled after his father asked him why he was removing a black bag
Investigators are still searching for the bag
All of these details are given without any clear timeline. Did the Sheriff's department find handwritten notes, or other evidence of a threat to Giffords, prior to the shooting? Was the black bag removed from the family car prior to the shooting? Did Lourghner have a black bag with him at the shooting? It's hard to determine just what the signifigance of these details is.
Perhaps he honed his shooting skills in the desert.
Your fervent need to blame the parents does not address the fact that the shooter took a cab to the massacre, rather than a family vehicle.
Looks like more evidence that Facebook profile is fake.
I suspect that he didn't intend to survive his little stunt. I think that was part of the reason for all the crazy-sounding past-tense sentences in his YouTube channel. There was no need for him to bring a car if the trip was intended to be one-way.
No, they were in the safe at home.
Was the black bag removed from the family car prior to the shooting?
According to the story, yes. The time line would be like this: black bag from car, father chases, jarod in desert, (some time), cab ride, shooting.
Did Lourghner have a black bag with him at the shooting?
Unknown. The story says the bag hasn't been located so, presumably, he didn't have it at the moment of the shooting.
As an aside, since details are often fuzzy, I wonder if the "black bag" was the "black hoodie" he was wearing according to the 911 call and not really a bag.
I assume this guy supposedly chased his son because he was worried what he might be up to.
If so, why didn’t he call the police and warn th...oh wait...Dupnik is the law officer.
