Hoyer Blames Reagan and Bushes for Deficits, Says Policies Did Nothing to Grow Economy Tuesday, January 04, 2011 By Dan Joseph

(CNSNews.com) - In his last day as House Majority Leader, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) put much of the blame for America’s growing debt on past Republican administrations, including former President Ronald Reagan.

“Ronald Reagan came in and adopted an economic program that created $1.4 trillion in deficits over the next eight years,” Hoyer said in a Capitol Hill press conference on Tuesday, where he appeared with other members of the Democratic House Leadership.

“George Bush continued those policies and added another trillion dollars to the deficit," said Hoyer. "Bill Clinton came in 1993 and we adopted a PAY-GO (pay as you go) process.”

Hoyer warned that new rules that will be adopted by the incoming Republican majority in the House of Representatives will lead to an increase in the federal deficit. (The new Congress is scheduled to be sworn-in today, Jan. 5.)

Hoyer went on to say that the policies of Ronald Reagan not only increased the deficit, but also did nothing to grow the economy and were responsible for the recent economic downturn.

The economy didn’t grow during the Decade of Excess? I was a computer technician and my salary tripled between the last day of Carter and the mid 80’s.

Is he wandering around, looking confused? Wearing one shoe, holding the other? Is he trying to get warm before he buys his ticket?

Except Reagan’s tax cuts were supposed to be matched with $2 dollar spending cuts for every $1 tax cut

The Tax cuts happened, but the DEMOCRAP CONGRESS never enacted the spending cuts. Still, the tax cuts stimulated the economy enough to recover from CARTER.

We need to say it over and over and over until someone gets it in the media- CONGRESS CONTROLS SPENDING

The only balanced budget over the last 50 years was when the REPUBLICANS controlled congress during Clinton.

Clinton left office with a SURPLUS, as opposed to the $740Billion dollar per year deficit he WANTED, only due to a Republican congress

...that created $1.4 trillion in deficits over the next eight years...

...and how much did Obama ring up in his first 18 months?

Obama and Hoyer wrote more than $3 trillion in debt in 2 years, which is more than twice what Reagan wrote in 8 years.

I can go down into center city Philadelphia and find a guy who says that the reason he lives on a steam vent is because the CIA is beaming negative thoughts into the fillings of his teeth.

Has as much connection to reality as do the rantings of Stenny Hoyer and the rest of his nut-job clan.

Congress controls the purse strings.
But you would never know that if you only watch tv, and mostly get your political views from late night talk show hosts or SNL. Pretty much if that’s where an American gets his views, he’s a very useful IDIOT.

The president proposes, the Congress disposes.
It’s like arguing with an 11 year old about budgets. The ‘progressives’ are delusional if they think raising tax rates will increase revenue.
only Reagan proposed supply side economics, Tipp O’neil called them Dead on Arrival. Rewritting history again.

Poor man, he no longer needs to carry Nancy Pelosi’s purse as she parades through the Capital grounds gloating, carrying her big gavel

Maybe Darrell Issa can have Nancy’s big gavel mounted, or use it to play Whack-a-lib
