Haiti suffers year of crisis with nobody in charge

**SNIP**

Over the summer, a storm ripped through a quarter of the camp's tents. People screamed and cried as, again, they lost their homes.

Only one more relocation camp was built. The rest of the project was abandoned.

In May, an old smell returned to the Champ de Mars: Tear gas. Parliament dissolved because an election could not be held to replace expiring seats. Its last act was to grant emergency powers to Preval and create a reconstruction commission co-chaired by Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive and former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Clinton was already the U.N. Special Envoy for Haiti. Aliodor and others wondered if he was now their governor.

When Preval announced that he might extend his term beyond February 2011, opponents marched to the palace. Police and U.N. peacekeepers fired rubber bullets and tear gas at rock-throwing demonstrators and into the camp.

Then Haiti settled in for a summer break. The World Cup was on.

From 10/26 - Haiti’s Latest Misery (*Bubba is supposed to bring coordination, efficiency and transparency)

The Interim Haiti Recovery Commission, headed by Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive and former President Bill Clinton, is supposed to bring coordination, efficiency and transparency to the rebuilding. It has met only three times and is still not fully staffed. At its most recent meeting on Oct. 6 — actually a conference call — the commission was still voting on changes to its bylaws.

What would you expect with Bill Clinton’s involvement in Haiti? A miracle perhaps?

Good job, Bubba.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Imagine being a Haitian and having the UN come to your country and then you discover that the greatest benefit they left your country was a Cholera epidemic.

The USA should take the joint over—Bubba should be made Governor General or Mikado or something—Like McArthur was to Japan in 1945-50, to rebuild the nation. Once this is done a decent government (even if its a tad corrupt) put in place with elections. It would cost less to do this than have the Haitian People get to the USA and go on welfare. besides we might have fun rebuilding this sink hole—turn it into a new Havana. In return we could build a naval base their, some universities, Drug Rehab places, We could build factories that make more than baseballs.

Every now and then Clinton flies in for a photo op. Yet for millions their home is just a tent and almost 4,000 have died from cholera. Where is the media? Where are the BILLIONS?
