The Liberal Reckoning of 2010 (WSJ Editorial)
Wall St Journal ^ | Dec 31, 2010 | editorial

Posted on 12/31/2010 3:06:32 AM PST by The Raven

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid sent out a press release last week headlined "111th Congress Accomplishments." It quoted a couple of Democratic Party cheerleaders calling this the greatest Congress since 1965-66 (Norm Ornstein) or even the New Deal (David Leonhardt), and listed in capital letters no fewer than 30 legislative triumphs: Health Care Reform, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a Jobs Package (HIRE Act), the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, Food Safety, the Travel Promotion Act, Student Loan Reform, Hate Crimes Prevention, and so much more.

What the release did not mention is the loss of 63 House and six Senate seats, and a mid-December Gallup poll approval rating of 13%. Never has a Congress done so much and been so despised for it.

While this may appear to be a contradiction, it is no accident or even much of a surprise. The liberal wing of the Democratic Party had been waiting since the 1960s for its next great political opening, as we warned in an October 17, 2008 editorial, "A Liberal Supermajority." Critics and some of our readers scored us at the time for exaggerating, but in retrospect we understated the willful nature of that majority.

Democrats achieved 60 Senate votes by an historical accident of prosecutorial abuse (Ted Stevens), a stolen election (Al Franken) and a betrayal (Arlen Specter). They then attempted to do nearly everything we expected, regardless of public opinion, and they only stopped because the clock ran out.

The real story of 2010 is that the voters were finally able to see and judge this liberal ....[ snip ]...

Using a descriptor from one of my cohorts here on FR, I LOATH the Democrat party.

Dems bragged that no one in the West Wing matches Joe Biden when it comes to
his ties on the Hill, his depth of knowledge on how Congress works and having
the members’ trust on both sides of the aisle.....

"What's that, Arlen baby? Afraid you're gonna lose? Trust me, Arlen, old pal.
About as much chance as that happening as Michele having a watermelon-eating
contest on the WH lawn."

Their continued deafness to the voice of We, the people and their unparalleled arrogance can only have two eventual outcomes: 1)our slavery or 2)our freedom.

To achieve the former, do nothing but complain. To achieve the latter will only be done with blood, sweat and tears.

If what I have read at FR is correct, the term, “As the Secretary shall direct,” appears hundreds of times in the National Socialist Healthcare law. We know for instance at a minimum that Sebellius has granted hundreds of waivers to Obama contributors. This isn't the rule of law.

Think about it. Congress essentially granted dictatorial health care powers. It is tyranny.

Even more egregious is that Democrats were given warnings all along the way, for example, Scott Brown, but continued to ignore the people.

Ignored? Or perhaps: "correctly assessed" the people maybe?

Maybe they're not scared because the entitlement-set voters are very reliable, and they know that we will eat our own continually in the purity battles.

Check the premise first.

“I loathe the Democrat Party.”

That makes two of us. But loathe is insufficient to describe the depth of feeling. Detest doesn’t work either. Neither do abhor, abominate, repudiate, spurn, or any others.

The question is, what does one think of cosmic evil?

IMHO

It is the rule of man. Rule by decree. The Dems are quick to call anyone a Nazi, but they are indeed the facists.

The real story of 2010 is that the voters were finally able to see and judge this liberal agenda in its unvarnished form. For once, there was no Republican President to muddle the message or divide the accountability.

One of the few blessings of McCain losing.

Supreme Rino McCain would have blurred and widened or totally erased what is left of the line between the demonrat socialists and the few remaining Republicans.

For the rinos, the aisle they must reach across is the one separating them from the Republicans, not from the demonrats. Unfortunately, the rinos are the RNC and control the Republican party and they don't feel the need to reach across that aisle.

All that can save us now is us.

Vote-crazed politicians set-up the federal entitlement system to get re/elected.
Phony do-gooders promised anything to lock-in voting blocs and campaign
buck$. People get used to govt giveaways and freebies, and want more of them.

Vote-crazed politicians: "The more we spend, the more earmarks we get."

Only the great author H.P. Lovecraft was capable of aptly describing the level of revulsion that I have for the Democrats. They are vile creatures from the darkest corner of Hell.

“They are vile creatures from the darkest corner of Hell.”

That still doesn’t quite ring adequate enough, but I’d sure like to use it.

Thanks and Best Regards, Happy New Year.

Let me try again...

From the darkest, deepest pit of Hell - marinating in the diseased, vile and vituperous corruption of mankind's most loathsome sins, emerges a political party that represents all that is wrong and destructive in the body politic - that writhing, hideous, pustule-ridden and unnameable demon born of the unholy fornication of covetusness and licentiousness - that despicable serpent known only as the "Democrat Party".

How's that? :)

I think “Wreckening” would be a more appropriate term for what they’ve done...
