Mike's mosque myopia
NY Post ^ | December 29, 2010 | Editorial

As long as Mayor Mike is in the dock, let us also note that when it comes to building a mosque near Ground Zero, he has from the start stood behind the First Amendment -- sort of.

That is, he likes the part that gives Muslims the right to build a house of worship just about anywhere they want.

But the part guaranteeing a separation between religion and government?

Not so much.

That much became obvious last week with the release of e-mails demonstrating that City Hall did much more than offer the mosque's organizers routine help.

In fact, it turns out that Team Bloomberg was heavily involved in operating the political machinery needed to ensure that various regulatory agencies approved the controversial project -- which has rightly drawn the ire of many 9/11 survivors and victims' families.

Even to the point of pressing Community Board 1 to cast an approving vote -- so that the chairman of the Landmarks Preservation Commission could be given the "political cover" he so urgently sought before his agency denied landmark status to the existing building.

That not only raises First Amendment questions -- it also provides serious doubts about the legitimacy of the LPC vote, which appears to have been dictated far more by politics than by any consideration of the building's architectural and historical merit.

Bloomberg has developed such a fondness for "religious freedom" entirely out of self-interest. He has considerable business dealings with Arab countries and wants to keep them secure.

On the basis of my experience in NYC with the disasterous 3rd Koch term, I predicted that Bloomberg’s bought and paid for, illegal 3rd term, would end up mired in incompetance and corruption. He has not proven me wrong.

A lot of voters must have agreed with you, judging from Mikey’s narrow winning margin against a virtual unknown.

But, of course, being liberal sheep, they allowed him to flout the law and went ahead and elected him anyway; admittedly, with the narrow margin you talk about.

Just saw the disasterous news reports from the snow-bound boroughs of the city. Mosque, yes; plows, no. Not the first time he’s pulled this stunt.

What do you expect from a man who is the Sharia compliant banker for the Mohammedans of the Gulf? He’s just like all the other loud mouth American politicians, left, right or in the middle. They are all bought and paid for by Mohammedan sheiks. Bloomberg’s interest in the First Amerndment of course does not extend to tiny St. Nicholas parish, the only place of worship destroyed (obliterated actually)on 9/11. The Port Authority has simply seized its land, without any compensation and effectively told the Orthodox Christians to take a hike.

Don’t insult William Marcy Tweed like that by comparing him to that whiny-voiced moron Bloomie.

Oh, yeah...at sunset. Some weiner said that once, didn't he? ;-)

I think it's a rather annoying sound.

Personally the most beautiful sound on earth is a Baldwin SD-10 under the capable hands of a gifted soloist in the 18th variation of Rachmaninoff’s “Paganini Rhapsody”..........
