APOLLO BEACH, Fla. – People aren't the only ones in Florida who don't like cold weather. Manatees — those giant aquatic mammals with the flat, paddle-shaped tails — are swimming out of the chilly Gulf of Mexico waters and into warmer springs and power plant discharge canals. On Tuesday, more than 300 manatees floated in the outflow of Tampa Electric's Big Bend Power Station.

HOLD it.

You mean to tell me that power suppliers built by evil humans are actually HELPING to save endangered species because it keeps water warm during freezing “global warming” conditions?

Stop it.

Mental typo: Should have read:

Al GOre is bigger than a Manatee.

Manatees definitely are better than Al Gore. And they don’t rip off the terminally stupid re carbon credits.

Oh, the huge manatees!

I had a look at the power station web site, and lo and behold, they have a Manatee Viewing Center:

http://www.tampaelectric.com/manatee/

If not for these power plants, the manatees would likely be dying of the cold.

I hope they'll organize a feeding program - even after the weather warms up the water will take a lot longer to heat up.

If they have to venture into the cold waters to eat - and further and further as that many in one area will strip close in areas quick =

FEED THEM!

The damn Feds made power plants cool their discharge which caused many to freeze last year. I am not sure if they changed the rules. They used to always love to find those spots by the power plants in the days before the rule. They are beautiful creatures.

Charlie Crist killed several new power plants, and by extension, is responsible for the death of hundreds of manatees. Way to go Charlie

It doesn’t take an especially cold winter, they do that almost every year as I understand it.

That looks like what I saw at Manatee Park just outside of Fort Myers a few days ago. The warm outflow from a power plant was packed with manatees.
