The U.S. will deploy another nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in Northeast Asia in response to North Korea's threat of a "sacred war" using nuclear weapons, media reports said. The Ronald Reagan will bring to three the number of U.S. aircraft carrier fleets in the west Pacific, joining the George Washington in Japan and the Carl Vinson that just arrived in Guam.
China's official Xinhua news agency said the new addition could raise tensions in the region, with the Chinese military already calling it the biggest threat to China and North Korea in six decades.
Commissioned in 2003, the Ronald Reagan can carry more than 6,000 sailors and over 80 aircraft. According to a dedicated website, it is scheduled for deployment in the west Pacific in 2011.

There are a few hundred million Christians in China, and they wouldn’t mind having their country back.
Those carriers are only a threat to China if China is a threat to the USA. So what are our ‘friends’ in Peking trying to tell us?
“U.S. to Send Another Nuke-Powered Aircraft Carrier to NE Asia”
Our steam and wind powered carriers must be tied up other places.

South Korea’s problem. We do not need another war. We have a muslim usurper in office. Where are all the idiots who bashed LTC Lakin?
Well, things sure are not going well for him on the domestic front. Showing some strength in foreign policy probably is not going to be bad for his numbers.
Whatever his motivations are, I actually think he is handling this whole Korean crisis pretty well.

Actually nobody knows how many christians are in china..
There could be billions.. whatever a christian is..
A billion chinese christians "praying" could explain Chinas success..
Well.......... it could!...
The day after the Chia Pet croaks is the time to start trying to topple the NK regime...I wonder if the new guy in SK has the cojones for it..
FWIW, our carriers are still steam powered. It's just that the heat to boil the water is provided by nukes instead of coal or oil.
Isn’t the USS Al Gore powered by hot-air windturbans?
We had better be sending a full complement of ASW vessels, and they had better be taking that threat seriously.
Well, it does have the advantage of being (superficially, anyway) a rather straightforward cold war sort of controversy. The strategy aspects are pretty simple, really: either get ready to deal with a NK attack, or try to run out the clock on Kim Jong-Il. There's not much chance of SK actually starting a war.
But it's never that easy. I hope somebody in the WH is carefully thinking through the China angle of this.
Because in a sense, Korea is only a side-show. The real game is that the US is asserting itself in a big way, in a region where China has increasingly claimed the central role, and perhaps even hegemony. (Recall the way the Chinese ambassadors barged into South Korea a few months ago, and made the SK government dance like puppets.)
We could very easily find ourselves in a Cold War situation, except that China has a lot more tools to work with than the USSR did -- manufacturing and ownership of US debt being the most obvious. And we have tools as well: China's stability depends on at least the illusion of economic growth; and anything that affects their trade balance with the West threatens stability.
Oh, man, I hope we have some careful thought going on about this stuff.....
Speaking of the Chinese angle - It sounds like the PLAs DF-21D (anti-ship ballastic missile) just went operational. The Navy boys seem to be pretty worked up over this. Apparently, our Ageis systems can’t handle the DF-21Ds. Heck of a time to put 3 CBGs in theater

China has got a serious case of CBAGAPHOBIA, characterized by nervous twitching, paranoia and rash outbursts.
The late president of Iraq had a BAAAAAAD case of CBAGAPHOBIA. Cause............. undetermined.
CBAGAPHOBIA has been thought to be contagious with rulers of totalitarian governments being particularly susceptible.
Hey MACH-MOOOOD, you better get a CBAGAPHOBIA shot.
We probably won’t know until it’s raised from the depths.
