TRENTON If education really is the the civil rights issue of our time as Gov. Chris Christie calls it then Christie better hope Christopher Cerf has some Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and Jackie Robinson in him.
Christie unleashed the worst kept secret of his administration, new Education Commissioner Cerf, at a press conference today.
With Christie branding 2011, the Year of Education Reform, he admitted it will be a very, very interesting and challenging year.
Cerf, a 56-year-old registered Democrat, is a teacher-turned-lawyer from Cincinnati who was an associate counsel for Pres. Bill Clintons in the mid-90s.

Christie may be a fiscal conservative, but he certainly isn’t a social conservative. I fully appreciate his fiscal stances, but his stands on homosexuality, immigration and such repel me.

Yes, but if those who hate RINOs more than they hate the Devil work really hard they can probably get a Democrat into his position next cycle.

Agreed. So he gave a couple of good speeches. But what has he actually DONE? And he is not to be trusted on the social issues.

That's not the issue.
The falsehood that Christie is a great conservative is the issue.
To: mick
You’re right. The fact that he fired Bret Schundler from this same position for not being party to Obama’s shakedown of the states is unforgivable.

The man clerked for Sandra Day O'Connor, and ran a very successful charter school, who knows what his politics are??? I don't!!

Thank you. The willingness of “conservative” Republicans to b.s themselves and the rest of us knows no end. Check Scott Brown for further information.

That's not the issue here.
The issue is both the falsehood that Christie is conservative, which he is not, and the ignorance of what Christie has actually done:
Here's the truth about the so-call "Conservative" Christie, the truth the Main-Stream media, and even conservative journalists/organizations are not printing:
- Chris Christie's budget passed only after three conservative Republicans were bullied into voting for it and the savings achieved in the budget were done at the expense of new taxes, new fees, federal Stimulus funds and accounting gimmicks; the 2% property tax cap will actually cause taxes to skyrocket; he has yet to propose the across the board tax cuts he promised as a candidate; the budget actually INCREASES state expenditures by 6% and the number of staff in the Governors office making $100,000 per year increases by ten;
- Chris Christie's confrontation with the unions is pure Kabuki theater with nothing accomplished but acrimony; he has yet to lay off a single state employee and his proposed 2011 state worker reduction plan is little more than window dressing;
- Chris Christie has populated his cabinet with notorious liberals while firing the only true conservative - after slandering him;
- Chris Christie has endorsed notorious RINO candidates in the 2010 mid-term election while avoiding (with one notable exception) contact with conservative candidates;
- Chris Christie supports a multi-state Cap & Trade scheme known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and is so committed to Cap & Trade that he used funds raised from RGGIs carbon auctions to help balance the budget; he has directed that state funds be appropriated to subsidize green technology ventures such as off-shore windmills;
- Chris Christie has refused to join other state attorneys-general in a joint lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare while accepting federal funds for the implementation of a similar program on a statewide level;
- Chris Christie is on record saying that he does not believe illegal aliens are here illegally; he has indicated that he supports amnesty for illegals; he generally favors strict gun control and he supports construction of the Ground Zero Mosque even as he condemns those who oppose it.
Here's the details about the lack of conservatism on the part of Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey:

Christie is a lib, no doubt. He’s talked a big game on fiscal issues but the fact is that you really can’t trust anyone but a socon to keep their word in these kinds of things.
I wish it weren’t true but it is true.
If people in government and politics don’t believe in a higher power and a traditional (aka religious) code of ethics they usually end up being bought and paid for by the special interests that really dominate our politics.
As for him being better than a Democrat, it only really matters if he achieves something meaningful that a Dem wouldn’t even attempt. As for him running for president, that’s just laughable.
Why would anyone who agrees with him and Obama on so many matters vote for Christie when Obama is there—? When two Dems oppose each other, the Dem always wins.
Hey. If you like the idea of a Ground Zero mosque you’ll love Chris Christie.

The problem with RINOS like Christie is that he intends to save the welfare state not to end it. And when the inevitable collapse and bankrupcy occurs people will think that conservatism has been tried and failed. Which is not true. True consevative principles of slashing government spending and cutting taxes and the size of government are the only way out of our problems. So, frankly, I would rather have a democrat in office - doing the same thing as Christie - and get blamed.
I live in jersey and property taxes are still going up and the government is still growing. He is a fraud. So, yes, I'd rather take my poison without a chaser of faux conservatism.

Keep in mind the people of NJ did not vote for a conservative ideologue. They voted for someone who would lower their property taxes.

True. And he hasn’t. His vaunted taz relief program is so full of exemptions that property taxes have gone up again. And will continue going up until a true slashing of government employees and spending occur. But thta wont happen with Christie.

Thanks for bringing some facts about this guy.
Yeah, I got excited about this guy, only because of the way he dealt with the teacher union thugs. I was still cautious because I wanted to know where he stood on other issues.
Then, some Freepers started pointing out his positions on gun control, illegal aliens and the GZ mosque which were troubling but I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised. After all, he is from New Jersey. That’s when I started to cool towards this guy.
Thanks for the links and thanks to mick for showing that Chris Christie isn’t the conservative people think he is.

Being anti-gay in New Jersey will not win you any votes.Legal immigrants are largely accepted, or at leat tolerated (even the Muslims), while the illegals are segregated in forlorn cities that nobody has wanted to call home for 40 years. There are no large culturally conservative voting blocs up here, so Christie is as good as it gets.
As a NJ voter and taxpayer, I am more concerned with the government employees getting six figure salaries, 80% pensions, and full health care provided by me than I am with Dick and Bruce committing to each other at borough hall. I have become convinced that the folks who care most about social issues tend to be in states with few fiscal problems, leaving them with the time to care about such things.*
*Abortion is homicide and gun control is an infrigement on civil rights, so these are exceptions that everyone should truly care about, even here in NJ.

The RINO Beltway pundits absolutely adore Governor Christie and they’re convinced he could walk away with the GOP presidential noination and the general election.
Trouble is, they’re again taking TEA Party Republican voters for granted. Are we really working to elect TEA Party patriots to Congress only to nominate and possibly elect a Northeastern Republican governor who’s soft on illegal immigration, the 2nd Amendment and the repeal of obamacare?
I think not.

That’s your issue. The real issue is that will he make a good governor. From my perspective he seems to have a good shot. This is something nyers should want, unfortunately they don’t think they need. I do.
