David A. Keene |
WASHINGTON – The non-profit organization responsible for the largest annual conservative gathering in the U.S. is under investigation for embezzlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars in donor money over several years, WND has learned.
The American Conservative Union, headed by David Keene and best known for its organization of the Conservative Political Action Conference each year in the nation's capital, has been embroiled in controversies in recent years, but this one is shaking the foundations of the Washington institution.
The American Conservative Union reported to the Internal Revenue Service last month a "material diversion of the organization's assets" totaling over $400,000. The group has an annual operating budget of about $1.5 million.

From everything I’ve seen, Keene is pretty far from a conservative. How “ironic” that he’s running CPAC—and apparently running the organization into the ground.
HA HA HA!
The big-time Myth Romney and Gay-Rights supporter now will have no more power.
HA HA HA!
The elite need to quit worrying about Sarah Palin and get their own act cleaned up.
Most of the power structure of ACU is anything but conservative. - They are the establishment elite of the GOP.
Are you still gloating over Christine O’Donnell’s defeat?
House cleaning time for the ACU.
I suppose the Left thinks this will stop us.
Oops!
I had no idea this guy and his family were so corrupt. If CPAC and the ACU had their act together they would be having Keene arrested and try and rehab their reputation.
One question I have for the ACU. How the hell did you allow a full out progressing elitist run your group?
The left has yet to weigh in on this.
This is the RINO wing of the party, that the left loves in the primaries.
> “How the hell did you allow a full out progressing elitist run your group?”
.
How indeed!
Keene is a Romney crony. I wonder if Mitt was getting a cut of the stolen money.
Another reason to give to individual candidates and not any organizations.
Sarah Palin has never accepted an invitation to speak before CPAC and last year she declined, (I think and heard) because of the homosexual bent).
CPAC has gone downhill (or so I've heard), but nutmeg attends and always comes back with wonderful reports.
FWIW, I'm not dancing or happy or celebrating the IRS going after, anyone or any organization that's on our side, but embezzelment is a serious crime.
I have not linked to WND to read the article. If he's a corrupt bastard on Team Romney, then let him fry.
IIRC he writes for The Hill.
When a group starts pushing abortionists, homosexualists, statists and corrupt bastards, it cannot claim the mantle of conservatism.
You’re most certainly right about that. Conservative principles don’t bend or expand with political whims, and our Constitution shouldn’t either.
They are who they are. There is no ‘clean up’, just an occasional revelation.
...not the slightest bit surprised....progressives all.
Disgraceful...
