OSLO: As India went ahead with attending the ceremony to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo in Oslo on Friday, resisting last minute efforts from Beijing, an irate China said it was "unfortunate" and "weird" that India joined a "China-bashing chorus." With Premier Wen Jiabao slated to visit to India from December 15-17, officials here have been maintaining that that the Oslo ceremony is not a "bilateral one" and India attending a multilateral event should cause no concern to China.
"I merely regard this vicious handout of the prize an allied effort to demonise China; unfortunately India joined the China bashing chorus, it's weird for a former colonized country to do so, I see nothing independent (in it)", a Chinese diplomat told HT.
The Chinese diplomat said, "a hundred years ago we were a silent lamb suffering from foreign domination and humiliation, but today we can proudly hold high our heads".
And Beijing didn't take kindly India's decision to join the ceremony to award "dissident" Liu Xiaobo with the Nobel peace prize. Indian ambassador to Oslo, Bambit Roy attended the ceremony, which Indian officials described as "a courtesy that has no bilateral implications."
Sources said despite the demarches in November as well as in first week of December urging India not to attend, "China kept piling pressure on" till the last moment and they expect Beijing taking up the issue again.
"Our just position has won the understanding and support of over 100 countries and major organisations. Facts have fully shown that the decision of the Norwegian Nobel Committee does not represent the wish of the majority of the people in the world, particularly that of the developing countries", Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said in a statement.

NEW DELHI / BEIJING: Refusing to buckle under pressure from Beijing, India is all set to take part in the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony for Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo in Oslo on Friday. The move comes ahead of Chinese premier Wen Jiabaos visit to India on December 15. Foreign ministry officials refused to comment on Indias participation.
Beijing has asked several countries, including India, to boycott the ceremony or face its displeasure. A foreign ministry spokesperson called the prize an open support for criminal activities in China. It is learnt Brazil and South Africa (from the IBSA grouping) are likely to take part in the ceremony.
India sounded out the Nobel Prize Committee that it will attend the ceremony. PTI quoted Torill Johansen, secretary in the Nobel Committee staff, as saying India was among 44 countries that had informed organisers of their participation.
But Beijings campaign to boycott the ceremony just got bigger and sharper. We will not change because of interference by a few clowns, snapped Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu on Tuesday. He said China had the explicit support of more than 100 countries and international organisations to back Beijing. It was not clear whether this group would boycott the prize ceremony.
Jiang did not name the countries but said a majority of the international community supported China. Beijing has warned Norway that the prize decision made it difficult to maintain friendly ties.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee says 19 nations including China will not attend the ceremony for various reasons. Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq are among nations that will not attend.
An official source said, As of now, the decision is to participate. Usually we are represented by the ambassador. Any decision otherwise will be a contrary one.
Liu was awarded the peace prize for his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China.
Maybe the Chinese haven’t noticed, but India doesn’t jail and torture people for promoting democracy.
Good for India, I values of Ghandi still exist there.
Ghandi deserved a Nobel Peace Prize.
Liu Xiabo does not. To a lot of Chinese people, he’s considered a traitor to the country. He wrote numerous books and essays in the 80s that glorified the colonization of China by the Western Powers and Japan during the 19th century. He also wrote about the blessings of Western style democracy, and the Chinese government did not arrest him for what he wrote.
The main reason why this man is in jail is because he committed treason, He secretly accepted 700K dollars in “contributions” from the U.S congress during the mid 90s and starting a political movement with monetary backing from a hostile foreign power.

How do you think any sane country would treat such a spectacle?
Imagine a American Marxist who writes books about how wonderful life in America would be if we only had an authoritarian socialist government and were controlled by Russia and China.
Now imagine this guy starting a huge political movement here while being funded by the Chinese government.
Now imagine this guy getting a Nobel peace prize.
Get the picture?
ChiCom ALERT
(how are y’all doing, FRiends?)
Aside from launching personal attacks, would somebody clarify how taking bribes from a foreign power is NOT treason? In any government?
Ever heard of Barack 0bama?
