Just sit back and watch her go, because shes running for the White House right now.
>Questions about Sarah Palins future political plans are ubiquitous. From the left and the right, political pundits wonder aloud if shes really thinking about running for the office of president in 2012. And depending on the pundit, the questions over whether she will run are usually tied to reasons why she should or shouldnt.
But missing in all this guesswork over Palins intentions and the weighing of the pluses and minuses of her possible candidacy is the simple fact that shes already running for president, and so far, shes beating Obama and the mainstream media at every turn.
While Ive suspected that she was already running for some time, it dawned on me with near certainty after she released her Thanksgiving Message to All 57 States last week. Her willingness to mock Obamas 2008 claim that hed campaigned in “57 states proved that she has absolutely no fear of running against him. It also showed that she meant what she said about running against Obama in 2012 when she told Barbara Walters she could beat Obama.
I believe she started running for the office on the first weekend of February 2010, when she stood before the Tea Party convention in Nashville, Tennessee, and asked: Hows that hope-y, change-y stuff working for you?(It doesnt seem a great stretch to reach back to 1980 and juxtapose this with then-candidate Ronald Reagans famous question about the Carter years: Are you better off now than you were four years ago?)
At that same Tea Party convention, the mainstream media seized on the fact that Palin had written speech notes on the palm of one of her hands before ascending the podium. Groups like ThinkProgress.org and media figures like Andrea Mitchell mocked Palin for this, so Palin simply mocked them back by showing up a few days later at a campaign stop for Texas Governor Rick Perry with the words Hi Mom written on the palm of her hand.
Since then, shes continued to dismantle the assaults of the mainstream media while simultaneously taking Obama to task on point after point.
For example, she seized on Obamas April 2010 statement that the United States will not use nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear country as being indicative of his ignorance about nuclear weapons in the first place. She then mockingly added that it was just more proof of the vast nuclear experience [Obama] acquired as a community organizer.
More recently, she told Fox News that her reality show, Sarah Palins Alaska, could soon be followed up by a sequel titled Barack Obamas golf courses. The implication being that the current commander in chief will have plenty of time on his hands after the 2012 elections.
Counting her time on the national stage as a vice presidential candidate with John McCain, America has had over two years to watch Palin speak from the heart, while listening to Obama speak from a teleprompter. Theyve heard her relentless calls for a strong military, while watching Obama try to appease (instead of destroy) terrorists the world over. Theyve heard her defend the free market, while living with the ramifications of Obamas stimulus package, nationalization of industry, and takeover of health care.
The American people have even seen a microcosm of a Palin-versus-Obama matchup via the 2010 midterm elections in which 30 of 43 of the House candidates she endorsed won, as did 7 of the 12 Senate candidates she supported. Moreover, those elections proved that while rank-and-file citizens largely support Palins worldview, they are rejecting Obamas.
No wonder CBS News Nicolle Wallace said of Palin: She is one of the shrewdest political figures in our country at this moment. She’s also one of the most electric.”
So while the pundits guess, stabbing blindly into the air in an attempt to come up with proof of whether Palin will or wont run, the rest of us should just sit back and watch her go, because shes running for the White House right now.
And if I had to place a bet on who wins in 2012, my money would be on Palin.
Good Points. She did say she would be very unconventional. Can she miss any of the primaries? Is there a deadline to throw your hat in race?
I know this is off topic, but that never stopped me yet, so...
Dancing With The Stars is looking for another celebrity that would cause as much controversy (increase revenues for the show) as Bristol Palin.
They wanted Todd Palin next. I suggest they go for Michelle Obama. Certainly she would be ‘popular’. We all know (have been told) she is one of the world’s leading influential women. Just think of the wonderful costumes she would wear.
I’m still not sure if I believe anything Nicole Wallace says, she is what she is - a political operative who gets paid for saying whatever needs to be said at the moment.
But, her phrase “one of the shrewdest political figures in our country” is quite fascinating, because if true, Sarah Palin is completely “homeschooled” in the art of politics. Whatever she has learned has been at her own hand, from Wasilla City Council on forward to the 2008 VP race, where she got to see the likes of Ms. Wallace in action. Now she’s seen Mr. Rove and other would-be “advisors” in action.
So isn’t it intersting that a self-taught newbie to national politics, can rise to the leve of “one of the shrewdest” in a matter of 2 years? Either this doesn’t say much for the hired operatives, or it says a lot about Sarah Palin.
My money is on the latter.
Test - please ignore.
Thanks for posting the article.
The only other candidates the Republicans have are members of the good ole’ boy insiders club.
First she has to win the GOP primary and then we’ll see if she knows what she’s doing.
That will be a really exciting time.
Run Sarah!
That Sarah Palin makes anything she wears look good.
Palin is just reversing the usual campaign structure. Used to be fundraising then name recognition. She’s got name recognition out the ying-yang. She’s better known than Newt Gingrich . . .
When she announces money pours in.
Then it’s just winning the nomination, defining the opponent, defining the issues and agenda and we’ve got President Palin.
As well as other republican hopefuls.. bleeding those campaign coffers..
She was a reporter I believe, so Palin understands communications and news. Possibly a better background than Hollywood for modern politics, although actors certainly learn self-control and putting forward an image. Reagan . . . John Paul II wanted to be an actor and did stage plays as well.
No, Sarah started running on July 3, 2009 when she resigned as Governor of Alaska. Yes, the ethics onslaught was the prod but this was an absolutely necessary move if she was to pursue the Presidency. How else could she do all the travel in the lower 48 without facing claims of some merit that she was neglecting her duties? To opine on national issues and write the books, make the endorsements, yada, yada, yada. Heck, even the time zone would have been a challenge.
It was a necessary move, a brilliant move, and she hasn't looked back since.
Because whoever the TpCaucus picks as President to be, WILL BE the next President.. Better for her to keep herself and her family out of the toxic mix.. AND let the democrats THINK she is running.. or will run..
FrankR - your photochops are the BEST! I just had to pass along the DWTS one that came in today’s email to see how badly I’d get beat up over it ;-)
Keep ‘em coming - your efforts are appreciated!
Now there’s a neat graphic.
