As a federal employee, I applaud this move. Folks in the private sector are taking hits left and right and if this is ever going to get straightened out, everyone is going to have to chip in.
Aside from the military, no one should be immune.
After five years of massive increases, announce a freeze. Same with the debt commission—double the budget and then cut it 20% while raising taxes. Its all BS. CUT government worker pay, CUT spending in HALF, then we’ll know they are serious.
I would suggest that a 15% pay cut—across the board, for all government employees be a good place to start.

You could slash a WHOLE lot more than that. Something along the order of 1/3rd.
Right before the 2012 election they will be promised huge wage increases.
