A cache of a quarter-million confidential American diplomatic cables, most of them from the past three years, provides an unprecedented look at backroom bargaining by embassies around the world, brutally candid views of foreign leaders and frank assessments of nuclear and terrorist threats.
ome of the cables, made available to The New York Times and several other news organizations, were written as recently as late February, revealing the Obama administrations exchanges over crises and conflicts. The material was originally obtained by WikiLeaks, an organization devoted to revealing secret documents. WikiLeaks intends to make the archive public on its Web site in batches, beginning Sunday.
The anticipated disclosure of the cables is already sending shudders through the diplomatic establishment, and could conceivably strain relations with some countries, influencing international affairs in ways that are impossible to predict.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and American ambassadors around the world have been contacting foreign officials in recent days to alert them to the expected disclosures.

What is really going on here? ANYONE? I have a idea but?
These wikileaks people are idiots. This isn’t just going to anger America, who under obama is ineffectual. This is going to anger a lot of countries who have no problem doing VERY bad things to people.
My prediction: they’re going to be short-lived idiots...
How is the owner and operator of this website still breathing?
If nothing else, the world will conclude that America is really bad at keeping secrets!
Clearly he's being protected by someone very high up. The question is who.
Look at this administration. Nuff said.
I don’t believe they are doing this without POtuS blessings.
Can they still not produce and release the secret winning lotto numbers yet??
Won’t save him if Putin get’s pissed.
Follow the money.
Five newspapers and magazine for weeks, read and analyzed these telegrams, ...journalists from five countries studied telegrams, sharing information and expertise. They also decided to topics they would not treat because cited sources do seemed them sufficiently reliable. Such cooperation between five media is unprecedented...
LISTS OF PERSONS TO PROTECT
Newspapers have also established common lists of persons to protect, in crime dictatorial countries or war. All the identities of persons whose journalists believe that they would be threatened was hidden.
Approximately 90% of diplomatic telegram cover a period from 2004 to March 2010 (others back in 1966). The u.s. Government has defined three main levels of classification for its official documents: "Top Secret", "secret" and "confidential". 251 287 Telegrams studied by Le Monde are classified "secret" (16 652 memos) and "confidential" (101 748 memos) or "unclassified". Telegrams are therefore lacking "Top Secret" Department of State. There is also in this case no military or intelligence document.
who is getting their hands on all of these different kinds of documents and releasing them to the media? this can’t all be the work of that one kid that is in the stockade right now . . .
Sounds like they are like reading a Tom Clancy novel without the interesting story line.
Agreed. Pfc Brad Manning is taking one-for-the-team for Obama’s plan to destroy America. Manning is gay per internet research.
I so agree.
I can’t stand that Wikileaks freak but.. Where is our SECURITY???? What is going on in these embassies? Are we really that far gone that we can’t control the flow of our secrets? I find this absolutely amazing. Bad amazing.
How can one lone private get access to all of this? I just don’t believe it!
I with you. I don’t believe this either. This is on purpose.
