The backlash continues over those new TSA screening measures, and now one Central Florida airport has decided to go with a private security screening firm.
Orlando Sanford International Airport has decided to opt out from TSA screening.
"All of our due diligence shows it's the way to go," said Larry Dale, the director of the Sanford Airport Authority. "You're going to get better service at a better price and more accountability and better customer service."
Dale says he will be sending a letter requesting to opt out from TSA screening...
I’ll bet Uncle Janet is steaming over this. What if the private firm comes up with the better way that she said didn’t exist? Can’t have the private sector outdo the public sector. It might make Janet look like a colossal buffoon.

Our local Colorado Springs airport is thinking of ditching the TSA for private screening company. Good move for any town or city.
Awesome. Funny though I didn’t know that you could opt out of the TSA. Perhaps the TSA pays the way for the security which saves the airports money? If airports can opt out it seriously hurts anyone’s legal arguments for the 4th amendment since the TSA merely becomes a competing security company.

Yep, the deal was after two years any airport could opt out and use Private agencies, which, IMO, they should all do if they want to keep people flying, and hopefully the private agencies will profile.
The not-so-Justice Department will sue any group that “profiles”.
Watch Sanford’s new security firm to have the entire government thrown at them.

Keep in mind that the private firm has to follow ALL the TSA requirements and procedures. The fines assessed if they are caught not doing so are pretty heavy. And they will be watched.
FYI, TSA fines for “violations” by the private security firm are levied on the firm *AND* the individual employee who makes the error in following procedure.
So, don’t get too ecstatic. It may be the best that can be hoped for here is that the security employees will be less arrogant.

True, but what if someone sued one of the private security agents for sexual assault? It might have a different outcome than if someone were to sue a TSA agent. Any Freeper lawyers care to weigh in on this one?
They will see their passenger traffic increase.
I hope all other airports that want to remain fiscally sound and competitive will consider kicking out TSA and putting in private screeners who do not employ zero-tolerance non-profiling.
First though we need to check the stock of Mappy and see she doesn’t own a bunch of private security screeners.
I lived in Sanford for 10 years and worked for Seminole County as a Traffic Engineer. Larry Dale used to be (not sure if he still is) a developer and me and him butted heads many times. He also always won because my supers and commissioners would always cave. He is a very stubborn man. If anyone is willing to stand up to Barry and his TSA cronies, it will be Mr. Dale. Will continue to monitor this story.
Nice. So it makes sense to me. Airports that opt out should see a big uptick in traffic and airports that have a decrease will suffer until they get rid of the TSA. If people stop flying all together in big enough numbers the airlines will push the airport authorities to opt out or they will shut down flights.
