Zogby Interactive: 61% Oppose Full Body Scans and TSA Pat Downs; 48% Will Seek Alternative to Flying

Frequent Fliers: 59% Oppose Enhancements and 43% Will Seek Alternative to Flying

The implementation of full body scans and pat downs by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as part of security enhancements at our nation's airports will cause 48% of Americans and 42% of more frequent fliers to choose a different mode of transportation when possible, a recent Zogby International Poll finds.  Overall, 61% of the 2,032 likely voters polled from Nov. 19 to Nov. 22, oppose the use of full body scans and TSA pat downs.  Republicans (69%) and Independents (65%) oppose in greater numbers than Democrats (50%).

Of those polled, 52% believe the enhanced security measures will not prevent terrorist activity, almost half (48%) say it is a violation of privacy rights, 33% say they should not have to go through enhanced security methods to get on an airplane, and 32% believe the full body scans and TSA pat downs to be sexual harassment.  This is in line with frequent fliers (fly more than once every 3 months), as 53% say the enhanced measures will not prevent terrorist activity, 48% believe it's a violation of their privacy rights, 41% say they should not have to go through it to get on an airplane, and 35% believe it is sexual harassment.   While roughly the same amount believe the full body scans and TSA pat downs are necessary to keep the country safe and prevent terrorist activities on airplanes (34% of frequent fliers vs. 29% overall), frequent fliers are more likely to feel that the enhanced methods are not needed because metal detectors and bag screenings are working fine (33% to 26%).

Just 16% of frequent fliers say no one has an absolute right to fly and if people don't like the security measures, then just don't fly compared to 20% of everyone polled.   The Zogby poll also finds when given a choice, likely voters will choose full body scan over the TSA pat downs (48% to 7%), but 42% would rather have neither.  Frequent fliers feel about the same.

Pollster John Zogby: "It's clear the majority of Americans are not happy with TSA and the enhanced security measures recently enacted. The airlines should not be happy with 42% of frequent fliers seeking a different mode of transportation due to these enhancements. It seems the airlines and TSA need to come together to find a solution before the American flying public abandons both."

The interactive poll consisted of 2,032 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/-2.2%.  A sampling of Zogby International's online panel, which is representative of the adult population of the U.S., was invited to participate.  Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, gender, and education to more accurately reflect the population.

I expect the 61% opposition to rise to 80% region post-holiday experience!

We need to deploy legal team to document violation of constitutional protections.

If there is not an immediate legal basis for challenge, then citizens have to decide if they want to remain free, and if so, commit to sacrificing economically, socially and possibly physically (incarceration, and bloodshed) to obtain and sustain that freedom. pure and simple

What happened? I could swear I saw a poll just yesterday in which 65% of the public support the scans.

Yeah, I saw that poll mentioned here on FR. I also heard that poll quoted on the radio news.
Polls are being used in a media mind control effort to thwart public outrage from coalescing into significant mass air traveler protest and revolt. IMHO

I think the groping of nuns and half-naked kids in public may have hastened its decline...

I can’t understand how people why actually FLY could be well-disposed to that crap.

Maybe some stick-in-the-mud couch potatoes aren’t troubled by it but anyone who plans on flying has to be shocked.

I've never really cared for most business travel - and often I believe with certain modern technologies that it's not as necessary as some associates believe.

So, I'll use this latest travesty of security as a reason to not make such questionable trips in the future, or to give stronger consideration to alternative means of transportation.

This should be GREAT for the air travel industry! /s

Actaully - I’m done - by the time I arrive at the airport - sit and wait to make sure I have enough time to make it through TSA - flight delays (if any and rare) - make my flight - land - and drive to my final destiniation. A few more hrs of driving and Iw oudl have been there in my own vehicle at my own pace - saved a bunch of money - and brought things that I otherwise wouldn’t be allowed - and didn’t have to pay for extra baggage or throw some liquid away. I fly twice a month and have been all year. Starting DEC - I’m driving...

Anybody with children should be seriously understanding what is happening.

I saw a video tape where the single mom (my assumption from her demeanor) passively watched as her son was patted down. I cannot imagine a father doing this. So we see yet another consequence of divorce, and demeaning of marriage and fatherhood.

It is the father who will protect his family. This is indeed God's plan for humanity. To the extend that it has been abandoned, the children are vulnerable to attack from government and other evil forces. JMHO

The scanner machines are made by a George Soros Company. Obama is destroying the airline industry to satisfy George Soros.

I saw one yesterday that the dad filmed. He said he didn’t film his wife’s out of respect for her but did his son’s because of its sheer absurdity.

Once they get you to the pat down stage, you’re essentially held captive. You’re inside the “zone” and (I think) separated from your carry on stuff. And parents are going to try to stay calm for the sake of their children. If you freak out, your kid is going to go bonkers. And the “authorities” know this.

I think that a lot of people who have been caught off guard and put on a brave face through the ordeal this year will never, ever step foot near an airport again.

There is definitely news media manipulation going on. TSA administrators are provoking outrage in hopes airports will privatize their security. This will make management's job much easier. A handful of major defense contractors including Lockheed and Raytheon have private airport screening services. Florida Congressman John Mica, a large recipient of campaign contributions from these contractors, has become their advocate. He was on CNN Sunday. Mica said his office would help any airport authority seeking privatization to find a contractor. Privatization may save money but the contractors will still have to follow TSA and Janet Napolitano’s rules.

Can someone tell me why we can’t make a list of those who CAN fly? It seems to me that if: one is a citizen and has been for decades, is a frequent (5 / life) flyer, had no interaction w/ a Moslem or Arab country, has voted for five or more times in US elections. . . he should be listed on this ‘CAN fly’ list. This would even save money. . . lots of it, but what it would not do is to build up the TSA / labor union strength which is the ‘RATs goal above all things. I, for one,
am trying to figure out how to get to New Zealand next year without flying.

I think it’s all the high-speed rail that is stirring this TSA sh*t.

I think there will be a domino effect.

Even those who don’t fly will have friends and family who do that will have been subjected to this abuse.
