Obama, Dems to meet on DREAM Act
Politico ^ | 11/15/2010 | Simmi Aujla

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) will meet with President Barack Obama Tuesday afternoon to talk about the chances of getting comprehensive immigration reform or the DREAM Act passed in the lame duck session, a House Democratic source said.

Immigration advocates want to know how much the White House supports a vote on either bill in the next few weeks. Menendez said on a conference call with reporters Monday that the White House is “ready and willing” to talk about immigration.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) could bring the DREAM Act to the floor as early as this week. The measure provides a path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants who attend college for two years or join the military.

The Senate blocked the DREAM Act and a repeal of the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy when both measures were attached to a defense authorization measure in September, just before adjourning for campaign season.

>> path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants who... join the military.

Say what? How does an illegal EVER get into the US military? If even ONE gets in, the system is broken... yet they make it sound like a LOT of illegals do.

This is Obama’s and the Dems’ last shot at getting any amnesty legislation passed for the next two years at least. The Dream Act will give amnesty to two to three million illegals. Obama must demonstrate to the Hispanic vote that he has done something for them prior to the 2012 elections. The Dream Act must be stopped at all costs. The Dems will make this their number 1 priority in the lame duck session.

Yep. No need to resolve the tax cut situation, figure out ways to reduce to the staggering debt, and try to boost the economy to decrease unemployment for 17% of the population...let’s concentrate on the most important thing: making 2 million more people (who have broken the law) citizens... (/sarc)

Boehner and McConnel should get to a microphone and reiterate that tax cuts are the issue the American people want resolved.

Make the donkeys pay for putting this crap first.

And then there’s always those usual suspect Repubs who support it, too...

Anyone who even *thinks* of supporting this should be primaried.

They have the votes to pass the legislation. The big stumbling block will be the cloture vote. The Reps must stand together to block this legislation from coming to a vote.

Can any of us FReepers who REALLY know how to analyze these things weigh in on the chances of getting something like this passed or thwarted?

Let's tell them that:

Boehner - 202-225-6205

McConnell 202-224-2541

Agree, there should be consequences, but if any of them vote for it, it is like closing the barn door after the horse gets out. This will be a rolling amnesty and covers “children” up to the age of 35. And once these “children” get legal status, they can sponsor their parents. siblings, etc. to come in to the country legally thru chain migration.
