Just Stay Home
The American Spectator | November 15,2010 | Jeb Babbin

Posted on 11/15/2010 4:20:33 PM PST by Hojczyk

The trade association of U.S. airlines -- the Air Transport Association -- says that it expects that about 24 million Americans will take to the air over the Thanksgiving holiday. That would be about 3 percent more air travelers than flew last Thanksgiving. I hope they are wrong. Travelers should drive, take the train, bicycle, walk or just stay home. Just don't fly. If we stay on the ground, the message may finally get through to our government: stop harassing us and concentrate on finding the bad guys.

Air travel was almost pleasant in the 1970s and '80s. The food -- at least on airlines other than the now-defunct Eastern Airlines -- was pretty decent, service existed and all in all it wasn't too bad even for those of us shuttling between Washington and Los Angeles every two weeks. It got steadily worse because the airlines were going broke in the 1990s and now -- since 9/11 -- only fools travel when they don't absolutely have to.

There are two ideas which dominate US airline security, and both are false. The first is that every air traveler -- be it a four-year-old girl or a 24-year-old Yemeni man -- is an equal risk. The second is that it more important to keep dangerous objects off the plane than to keep a dangerous person on the ground. And plans based on these assumptions are metastasizing into a burden on air travel that will damage our economy severely.

I think just boycotting air travel, as far as we are able, will be the most effective act.

Want to talk about a surreal rectal-cranial inversion of human existence? We willingly board planes to defy foreign terrorists. But then we boycott those same planes to defy domestic terrorists. We are under siege from within and without.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Some have to fly, obviously - sudden funeral, work requirement.

But if the customers dropped by half it would have an effect.

This snazzy number is only $29.99 plus shipping and handling

But if that's the only 'handling' you want to do then this is the route for all women to use for flying the TSA airways until they sort this crap out

Oh wait! Declare transgender status and men can wear these too - how fab!

OPT OUT

No problem. They now have a very unattractive product.

I posted the following reply earlier and it bears repeating (with minor improvements)here.

Lets say it LOUD and PROUD
Racial Profiling is GOOD !! Terrorist PROFILING is BETTER !!
MUSLIM Profiling is BEST !!

to paraphrase a great American
“... Profiling in the defense of liberty is NO VICE,
PCism in deference to minorities' 'sensitivity' is NO VIRTUE !!”

A recent huhu arose about whether the pilots could be forced to submit to this kind of search.

Think about that. Search the pilot to see if he has a dangerous object he might use to take over the plane.

Wait a minute! I think he’s already in control of the plane! That’s why we call him a pilot.

Welcome to Security Theater.

Time to get out the deep fat fryer and see what happens when a Koran is dunked in hot bacon grease?

Our family will not set foot in any airport using full body scanners. We'll be a rocking and a rolling down the road and helping stimulate small businesses all the live long day.

Think a can't play the victimhood game? I'll batter that sucker first and serve it with waffle fries. I. Me. Mine. Ours. Not yours for a change. OK, Granny, you and you jar of lutefisk can board the plane. You! With the dish towel on your head! C'mere. I wanna talk to you a sec.

The TSA is under the Homeland Security dept. Their “authority” isn’t tied to just commercial aviation.

If we let this become the new norm, look for these type of invasive searches when you go to a concert, shopping mall, visit your congressman’s office, go to court, visit your kid’s school, etc.

The 4th is dead if this continues.

If you want to do an invasive search of my person, you best have PROBABLE CAUSE and a WARRANT! That right is guaranteed in writing in this country.

You know people used to die and have funerals and be buried before 1960 and the introduction of the Boeing 707, don’t you?

True that. Sometime after 9/11 metal detectors started appearing at every courthouse and many schools. A combination of volume pricing and the madness of the crowds of this age.

And if we don’t PUNCH back hard to these bastardations of police powers we will end up with naked scanners and/or grope-em-ups at every courthouse and many schools.

I said just yesterday that we should just not buy tickets for a week. That would throw the airline industry into a panic and TSA would fall all over themselves to straighten out the rules.

I remember flying in the 70s. It was great. Comfortable seats with butt, elbow, and leg room. Plenty of storage for carry on. The stewardesses we pleasant and actually cared about their passengers. Soft drinks were unlimited and you actually got an entire can instead of those tiny little things now. You went home with bags of pretzels and honey roasted peanuts. The meals were real three course meals with real tableware and cloth napkins. I still have a menu that was embroidered and embossed and that was in coach. Yes, a menu so you could choose your dishes. Not those cold saran wrapped hard nasty sandwiches of today. And you didn’t have to pay for ear phones to watch the movie. Today’s airlines are two steps up from Russian planes where you’re lucky to get a lemon drop and you furnish your own barf bag.
