shatterproof box and hit them with an frequency that will detonate any explosive.

Really, there is no such thing. Even contact detonation with another explosive does not cover every case.

This is just a variant of the "silver bullet solution", i.e. there is some magical solution which will solve all of the problems. This is the same fantasy as the one supporting the backscatter x-ray search. There will always be an element of risk. Even if the passengers are stripped naked, shot full of thorazine, and strapped to a cradle for transit, some jihadi could sill screw things up. For example, the lines to security are not really protected, a coordinated bombing (especially with remote controlled bombs on the would be bombers) could really have a greater impact than 9-11.

The product thing to do is to accept the risk and ruthlessly focus the mitigation on the root cause, i.e. international terrorism in the name of religion and revenge for "exploited peoples". AKA the best defense is a good offense.

The end game here is to kill off yet another American industry, this time the airlines, so Obama can take over another huge chunk of the private sector. Tastes like socialism...

Napolitano has obviously taken leave of her senses. She needs to be fired before she can spin any more stupidity into public policy.

I fly all the time, for business. I've gotten pretty good at the security line...non-metallic belt, easy-to-remove shoes, no laptop in my carry on...I could get through pretty quickly. But recently I was surprised by having to go through the full body scanner. I had to take off my belt, take everything out of my pockets, stand there while being scanned, then wait for the results...making the entire process about 3 times as long as previously.

From now on, I'm driving.

Awwww, come on.
Did you have to bust my dreams?!?
You’re so mean.

(thanks for the very intelligent and kind reply!)

Funny how all the talk from the “gubmint” is how these new procedures will make air travel safer, yet nothing has been done about security around the aircraft themselves.

The weapons, (box cutters), used by the 9/11 hijackers were smuggled aboard the planes via the tarmac and not by folks using the normal passenger access to aircraft.
