Although Dino Rossi lost to incumbent Democrat Patty Murray by over 100,000 votes, results show that Murray did not win a single county east of the Cascades. Rossi, on the other hand, easily won the central and eastern parts of the state and made inroads on the more liberal west coast, winning in Skagit, Clallum, Mason, Pierce and Island Counties.

In some counties, like Grant, Adams, Garfield, Rossi received over 70 percent of the vote, and in many others, garnered well over 60 percent.

In contrast, Murray received over 60 percent in King, San Juan, and Jefferson Counties, and won by much slimmer margins in the five other counties she carried.

Initiative 1098, the "Robin Hood" income tax measure designed to "soak the rich" was crushed statewide, winning over 65 percent of the vote. The measure won in only one county - San Juan - and that by less than a full percentage point.

The measure was backed by Microsoft executive Bill Gates, and his father, Bill Gates, Sr.

Another measure requiring a legislative supermajority or voter approval on new taxes and fees received nearly 64 percent of the vote and won in every county except San Juan.

A measure that would let courts deny bail in certain capital offenses received nearly 85 percent of the vote and won in every county in the state.

Although the State Legislature is still in Democratic Party control, Republicans made...

It does not surprise me too much. I believe that Washington state is like most states 50/50. It seems as though two or three elections have been pretty close in Washington recently. Even the United States as a whole is 50/50 after President Bush barely made it twice. 2008 was unusual for sure as we had “a new shiny penny that blinded many”.

This is an attempt to find a silver lining behind a huge anvil cloud.

Brutal fact: the 1994 Republican tide did not break at the Cascades and Sierras. The 2010 tide did.

Take no comfort in this article.

So it seems.

Seething cesspits of grasping hungry mouths living off the sweat and labor of productive people who actually produce things.

Wishful thinking at best.

As long as King County remains so heavily populated with liberals and moderates like Luke Esser lead the Republican party, liberals will always retain a majority.

Add to that mix a RINO establishment candidate sent to D.C. in the 3rd C.D. and any gains made are minimal at best.

Don’t let them fool you on I-1098. Liberals voted against it for their own well-being, knowing eventually they would pay an income tax too.

49th legislative district liberal Democrat Jim Moeller, author of the ill-advised “candy tax” easily won reelection, in spite of his candy tax going down in flames.

I am of the mind that if the Clark County GOP hadn’t been so heavily focused on and invested only in getting Jaime Herrera elected, we might have picked a couple more seats. One in the 49th and the other in the 17th when deceptive liberal Tim Probst easily one his seat back.

I'd like to believe that Rob McKenna could defeat a Democrat for the governorship in 2012, and I'd like to believe that the R's could take the legislature, but I strongly doubt it.

Washington is two states unhappily married at the Cascades.

The country is almost two countries married at the Cascades. Look all the way down to Ca, and you will see a similar story. All the votes East of the cascades votes very very liberal, and all the votes West of the Cascade are very, very conservative.

Whether it be Wash, Ore, or Ca. that dichotomy exists. Let us pray for a huge earthquake that will send everything East of the Cascades into the Pacific.

No thank you. If that happens, I'm dead.

It still comes down to a basic truth that whatever King County wants, Washington will get.

That's how we feel in CA. What ever LA and the Bay are want, we will get.

It’s a nice headline but I think it is totally wrong. Washington is as Liberal as it ever was, maybe even more so. Even in a year when Liberals were not motivated to come out and vote, us Washington conservatives still woke up on Nov 3rd feeling gut punched. We were not celebrating with the rest of the country.
Murray not only kicked Rossi’s but, but we only gained 1 House seat throughout all the districts. Can you imagine if this was a Presidential year, when the Libs are motivated?
