Murkowski camp growing more confident of victory[1000s of mil./abs. ballots yet to be counted]
Alaska Dispatch ^ | 11/13/2010 | Jill Burke

Posted on 11/13/2010 11:12:40 PM PST by SeattleBruce

Incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski is closing in on the total number of votes cast for Joe Miller on Election Day. While it's believed the lion's share of votes for write-in candidates will go to Murkowski -- a suspicion the ongoing count has thus far proved -- the ballots must be looked at and assessed to know for sure. But with 84 percent of the more than 98,000 write-in ballots cast on election night already evaluated, Murkowski appears to be within striking distance of a win.

--snip--

But -- and there are always "buts" -- there are still thousands other votes yet to be tallied (at least 8,800 absentee votes plus more to be tallied from overseas) which could skew in Miller's favor, and if the difference between Miller and Murkowski is 1,246 or fewer votes -- 0.5 percent of all votes cast -- the election outcome will be close enough to trigger a state-funded recount. Not to mention Miller has launched a series of legal questions about whether less-than-perfect votes -- those with misspellings -- should count. He says no, Murkwoski says yes, and the court fight could become much higher stakes if it is challenged ballots on which the election will be decided. Also, more recently Miller has lodged allegations of possible fraud, and he's seeking voter registries to verify that the number of votes from certain areas didn't exceed the number of legally registered voters and to assess whether voters filled out their own ballots.

“Murkowski winning makes me sick to my stomach. I’d love to have a handwriting expert take a look at these ballots to determine how many ballots were written by the same person(s).”

Agreed.

Nice thoughts about confirming votes...

This election may come down to a 1000 or 2000 votes - and some people here act like Miller should just sluff off.

Found it and never thought there would be that many in a group like commercial fishing.

http://articles.latimes.com/2010/nov/04/nation/la-na-1104-alaska-senate-20101104

A week or so earlier, Vinsel and some of his fellow commercial fishermen had mailed 4,000 postcards urging boat captains to write in Murkowski’s name on the ballot. They organized phone trees to remind friends and crew members of the senator’s work on Exxon Valdez oil spill tax benefits, fishing subsidies and salmon habitat protection. They handed out buttons at grocery stores and wrote out checks.

“I originally thought it would be on Nov. 18 but I now think they maybe lumped in and being counted with the other absentee ballots. You would think there would be some info out there as to the process and as to how many UOCAVA ballots were mailed out.”

Very little if any information out there about this. As others have opined above, this issue with the military being disenfranchised has not gone away and should be taken up front and center by the Tea Parties.

What there is little light on, can be manipulated. That is a crying shame for our heroes in uniform. We MUST take up that cause (among the many important causes we’re championing in the Tea Parties.)

No doubt murky has a lot of ‘friends.’ Amazing how many friends you’ll discover when you’re handin’ out the taxpayers cash...

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...............

“Screw murkowski, (figuratively of course), the best she should be able to hope for is a comittee on sanitation.”

AK made the mandated 45 day deadline which I think was Sept. 18 for the mail out of UOCAVA ballots or so they wrote to the Feds when asking to be removed from the lawsuit.

According to Joe Miller yesterday, there are some 8,000+ absentee ballots yet to be counted currently (with more to come this week before the Wed. deadline.)

Murky had all kind of ballot box stuffing on Nov. 2nd...now we know why this write in is so high....I hope Joe prevails...even with all the voter fraud that is taking and taken place. IF she is short of votes...will they find a bag filled with write ins for her?

“Unfortunately, she’s more in line with half of the current GOP leadership than we’d care to know...they proved that by not kicking her off committees when she ran to oppose the legitimate Republican primary victor, after promising she would respect the results (she lied.)”

She should at the VERY least be kicked off the committees! I didn’t know she wasn’t...

You right this speak very, very poorly of the republicans in the senate and by all rights SHE SHOULD be in some way punished for her lying and double crossing backstabbing. If the people of Alaska want this “independent” then her serve as a freshman senator.

No deals, no special treatment, indeed she should be publicly and privately shunned as a discussing specimen of politicians.

Well, this is why I said “one of” instead of “the dumbest”.

Clearly, there is something very wrong with the left coast in terms of general grey matter capacity.

Rush has the solution for them. Raise taxes on them and them alone, and make them and them alone pay for their idiocy.

WHy should anyone have to support them other than themselves?

Thanks for the info, here’s hoping all the military ballots, or at least most, are for Miller.

yeah, I’d like to see every military ballot counted. RINO Murk will lose that contest.

http://www.adn.com/2010/11/14/1554159/murkowski-hopes-to-overtake-miller.html

“Her campaign hoped she’d be able to overtake rival Joe Miller as early as Sunday, but counters got through less than 5,000 ballots - far fewer than they’d been generally averaging since the count began Wednesday.

..snip..

Murkowski’s campaign has believed it would need at least 90 percent of the unchallenged vote to declare victory.”

Do we need any more proof that murk hopes to disenfranchise the remaining overseas/military ballots?

The Deadline for the Overseas Military Ballots is November 17th. They will be counted then.

An Absentee Ballot does allow for write-ins but:

When the Absentee Ballots went out, Lisa had not gotten her write-in candidacy on track and Joe was riding high in the polls. And.......

Write-ins on Absentee Ballots are very rare.

Sorry, but I don’t think your Brother voted. No offense, but,I think he was too embarrassed to admit that he didn’t vote. Lisa Murkowski’s name was not on the ballot.

If the uncounted 8,800 Absentee Ballots and the Overseas Ballots that will be counted November 17th, together total 15,000. I’m predicting that Joe Miller will win this thing.
