COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC-TV) - Republican Rep. Curry Todd of Collierville refused to back down Thursday from comments he made earlier in the week about illegal immigrants he believes are taking advantage of the system.
Todd made the comment Tuesday during a meeting with the legislature's Fiscal Review Committee. He had been asking if the state-funded Cover Kids program checked citizenship before paying for health care, and was told that the federal government didn't allow it for prenatal care because any child born in the U.S. is a citizen.
Todd said that means the immigrants can "go out there like rats and multiply."
By phone Thursday, Todd explained his position.
"I'm just kind of tired of the state funding folks here illegally in our state with healthcare," he said.
Todd admitted he should have used a better choice of words, saying the term "anchor babies," which is a reference to children born to at least one illegal immigrant parent, would have been better.

IF it were not for the fact it was embarrassing for you, YOU spoke the truth. And the local MSM forgets that, because they have an agenda to peddle. It's one of the reasons the Med has such financial problems and we the tax SERFS have to pick up the tab.

But it’s not the truth. Illegal immigrants are criminals and should be punished but they are still human beings and shouldn’t be compared to rats or any other animal.

Please, can’t people just speak their minds anymore? He was using a figure of speech. If someone told you your family is big, y’all must be multiplying like rats, would you get upset and cry about it? I think not.

But, you really DO make a fair point; illegal aliens aren’t animals, especially not in the minds of those who’re using them for political gain. Among the Ruling Class, no illegal alien is regarded as an animal; they’re regarded as pond scum, of use only until the political goal is attained, and then — oh, so VERY disposable.
In light of that, being called a “rat” constitutes a helluva promotion.
What do you call things that scuttle into your house uninvited in the middle of the night who invade your food stores, chew on everything, including your electric wires, leave 12 million poop pills in your house, and have their babies in nests they build in your coat pockets, after they chew the sleeves off your sweaters to build their nest, have five to six babies that create an invasion, that scuttle around in the shadows like thieves, bring foreign germs and disease into your house which creates health problems for you, and then you have to hire someone to come in and remove them, or you have to poison them to get them to leave?
