If you have gone through airport security at O'Hare, Midway or any other major airport recently, then you know that there is new screening equipment in place and procedures to search travelers.
Thousands of pilots who fly jetliners are angry about those changes.
There are two issues; two major pilots' unions say the full-body scanners are untested and potentially unsafe because of the radiation they expose travelers to. And the second issue is the new procedure for hand searches by Transportation Security Administration officers at airport checkpoints. Both have produced scathing memos about the TSA from the pilots' unions.

Title should say:
“Unions oppose secure airports,
women and children hit hardest...”
First question... what are THEY smuggling?
Fortunately, I've done a lot of foreign and domestic travel in the past, and saw everything I was interested in seeing.
This is a beautiful country from sea to shining sea. I hardily recommend road trips, getting off the interstates and taking the back roads.
Repealing the Orwellian charade at the airports should be task #1 for the new Congress. That and the light bulb ban.
If they wanted to, the pilot could fly the plane into a building.
Searching them is insane.
Authenticating them would be reasonable (fingerprint,etc.).
Be French for 3 days.
Walk off the job and shut down the air traffic system.
Let Big Sis start ordering Maalox in the 55 gal. drum.
I agree with the pilots on this one. They know that most people that they do this to are not terrorists, they just do it out of ‘fairness’. Save this Nazi type treatment for actual suspects.
STRIKE!!
STRIKE!!
What do soft porn imaging and gestapo-like molestation of women and children have to do with security?
They are against the scans because of Ionizig radiation. Is proven cause chromosome damage which can lead to skin cancrs. They are exposed to a lot of radiation because of the altitudes they cruise at .
My wife and I are willing to be “felt” up instad of being exposed to the radiation and we have NOTHING to hide.
You brought up a key issue right there, namely, saving the treatment for actual suspects.
Due to political correctness, there are no actual suspects as such. Instead, we’re all considered an equal threat to blow up or hijack a plane.
As much as I appreciate many achievements of the Bush administration, his Transportation Secretary, Norman Mineta, mandated that political correctness be used in airport screenings. He had personal family memories of the Japanese internment during World War II, and was determined that any sort of “Profiling” not be used.
So instead, we have to bend over backward to prove to people like Bin Laden and C.A.I.R. that we are not singling out Muslims/Arabs/young men from suspicious countries, etc.
Do Bin Laden and C.A.I.R. types of people suddenly love us because we are proving that we won’t use more common sense security measures???? Instead we make this big show of tight security and searches of everybody, just so certain people can’t say anything about discrimination.
An irony is that in the Arab/Muslim world, discrimination and profiling are used all the time. Political correctness is a western value, not a Muslim value. It’s hard to believe they respect us more for, as Obama puts it, “living up to our highest ideas”, when these people don’t share those ideals in the first place.
I say profile the Arabs and be done with this nonsense.
TSA should intern with El Al and then implement their no-nonsense, common sense approach.
I vote NO to radiation and if one of those creepy, low-life TSA union thugs grabs me, he’s going to have a black eye and a sore lower midsection.
BUMP, I couldnt put it better.
Everytime we go to the Airport they find a new way to invade our privacy for no good reason. In that way the terrorists won. We cant intern real suspected terrorists so we all must be treated as terrorists. I call it Bush’s :”No Terrorist left behind” , as we keep all the children behind with NCLB.
It is the screeners who needed the screening. This to weed out the odd person who slips through the cracks and gives honest employees a bad name. Also messing up the system, which is what it has done.
TYpical of pilots...afraid the world will find out how poorly they are really hung! :-)
This was all set in motion when Bush made them Federal Employees. Screw up there.
